Slack is looking for a General Manager, Slack Platform to own and grow the Slack 3P ecosystem and evolve it into revenue-generating business. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of how developers, partners, and businesses build on Slack — and to turn that ecosystem into a meaningful growth engine for the company.
This role sits at the intersection of product, partnerships, go-to-market, and strategy. You'll define what it means for Slack to be a true platform business, not just an API surface, and you'll lead the teams and initiatives that make it real.
What You'll Own
Platform Strategy & Business Model:
- Define and own the long-term strategy for the Slack Platform, evolving it into a revenue-generating business unit
- Develop and evolve monetization models for the 3P ecosystem — including revenue sharing, premium listings, platform tiers, and certification programs
- Set the vision for what the Slack app marketplace and developer ecosystem looks like in the next 3 years
- Partner with Salesforce ecosystem teams to create cross-platform leverage and joint go-to-market opportunities
Partner Ecosystem:
- Build and manage strategic relationships with the people and companies building on Slack
- Develop and nourish partner advisors to help guide the platform and product strategy
- Define and operate partner programs, including joint GTM, affiliates, and revenue sharing opportunities
- Lead commercial negotiations for anchor partnerships and co-sell arrangements
Developer Experience & Ecosystem Growth:
- Own the developer funnel — from awareness and acquisition through activation and retention
- Lead the Platform product team to ensure developer tools, APIs, and docs support commercial ecosystem growth
- Define and track ecosystem health metrics: active apps, 3P DAU/MAU, partner-attributed revenue, marketplace GMV
- Ensure that every companies AI strategy works because it works in Slack - growing 1P useful apps.
Go-to-Market:
- Build the GTM motion for platform — how Slack sells alongside its ecosystem, how partners co-sell, and how customers discover 3P apps
- Develop the Slack app marketplace strategy: curation, featuring, discovery, and conversion
- Work with Sales and Customer Success to drive platform adoption within Slack's largest accounts
- Represent Slack Platform externally at developer conferences, partner summits, and customer events
Team & Operations:
- Build and lead a cross-functional team spanning business development, partner success, developer relations, and platform operations
- Define and own the P&L or contribution metrics for the Platform business
- Operate with the rigor of a business unit leader: goals, budgets, headcount planning, and quarterly business reviews
Product Areas of Responsibility
The GM, Slack Platform holds product leadership accountability for the following areas, working in close partnership with the Platform engineering and design teams:
- Platform APIs & Developer Tooling — Strategic direction for Slack's APIs (Web API, Events API, Bolt SDKs, Workflows API); ensuring the developer surface supports commercial and ecosystem growth goals
- Slack Automations & Workflow Builder — Partner-extensible automation capabilities; defining how ISVs and 3P developers can build on and extend Slack's automation layer
- App and Agent Framework — How 3P apps and AI agents are built, distributed, and monetized on Slack; defining the next generation of the app model including Agentforce integrations and AI-native extensions
- In-Slack App & Agent Experience — The end-user experience of apps and agents within Slack: how they surface in conversations, how users discover and invoke them, the interaction patterns and UI surfaces available to 3P builders (e.g., App Home, message actions, modals, canvas integrations), and how AI agents are presented and trusted by end users. This GM owns the quality bar and design philosophy for how third-party experiences feel inside Slack.
- Developer Platform Experience — docs.slack.dev, sandbox environments, developer onboarding, and the full lifecycle from first API call to published app
- Slack App Marketplace — Overall health, discoverability, curation, and conversion of the app marketplace; defining the listing experience for partners and the discovery experience for customers
- Partner Integrations Layer — Certified and featured integrations with strategic partners (e.g., Salesforce, Google, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Atlassian); defining the standards and co-investment model for premium integrations
- Platform Monetization Infrastructure — Pricing, billing, and entitlement systems that enable platform revenue models (e.g., paid app listings, usage-based billing for 3P apps, platform tiers)
Who You Are
Required Experience:
- 10+ years in product, business development, partnerships, or general management roles — ideally with a mix of platform and GTM experience
- Proven track record building or scaling a developer/partner ecosystem at a B2B SaaS or platform company
- Experience owning a P&L or running a business with clear revenue accountability
- Deep understanding of API/platform economics and how to design win-win partner programs
- Strong commercial instincts — can structure deals, negotiate partnerships, and drive revenue outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority
Preferred Experience:
- Experience at a marketplace, developer platform, or app store business
- Background in enterprise software go-to-market (field sales, solution engineering, or alliances)
- Familiarity with the Salesforce ecosystem and how Slack fits within it
- Experience taking a platform from nascent to scaled commercial business
Leadership Profile:
- Builder mentality — excited by greenfield, not just optimizing what exists
- Equally comfortable in a boardroom pitch and a developer hackathon
- Data-driven with a bias for action; doesn't wait for perfect information
- Low ego, high ownership — leads from the front and gets into the details when it matters
- Excellent communicator and storyteller — can sell the vision internally and externally
Why This Role
The Slack Platform is one of the most strategically important bets we can make. Slack has millions of daily active users across tens of thousands of businesses — and a rich ecosystem of 2,500+ apps already built on it. We've barely scratched the surface of what's possible when that ecosystem is treated as a real business, with dedicated investment, commercial models, and the right leadership.
This GM will have the mandate, the resources, and the executive support to build that. It's a chance to do something genuinely rare: lead a platform business with the distribution of Slack, the ecosystem of Salesforce, and the greenfield opportunity of a category that hasn't been fully unlocked yet.

VP Product Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vp product in California?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a vp product in California. The standard path is to build progressively senior product management experience, typically moving from individual contributor PM roles through group PM or director of product before reaching a VP level. California employers in technology and enterprise software consistently look for candidates with a bachelor's degree in a technical or business field, evidence of owning large roadmaps, and experience managing other PMs.
Which companies hire vp products in California?
Employers hiring vp products in California right now include Intuit, Salesforce, and HP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of technology headquarters and growth-stage companies means VP-level product openings appear across a wider range of employer sizes here than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most vp product jobs?
The cities with the most vp product openings in California are San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area dominate because of the concentration of technology company headquarters and venture-backed scale-ups there, while Los Angeles reflects demand from media technology, e-commerce, and entertainment platform employers, and San Diego draws from biotech software and defense technology firms.
Are there remote vp product jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 27% of vp product openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of this work centers on strategy, roadmap definition, and cross-functional alignment rather than physical presence. Strategic planning and stakeholder communication tend to be the most remote-compatible parts of the role, while onsite presence is more common for companies that expect the VP to participate in executive leadership meetings.
How can I get hired as a vp product in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a product manager or associate PM role at a California technology company and building toward VP over several years. Large California employers including Salesforce, Google, and numerous Bay Area growth-stage companies run associate PM and rotational product programs that accept candidates from adjacent backgrounds such as engineering, data analysis, UX research, and technical program management. Building a portfolio of shipped features, quantifiable outcomes, and cross-functional leadership experience carries more weight in California hiring than any single credential.
Where can I find and apply to vp product jobs in California?
