GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Workflow Automation TPM owns the technology program that connects and streamlines operational workflows across Crane's core business domains — Freight Forwarding, Rating & Pricing, Sales & Marketing, Sustainability, and Ground/Warehousing. The immediate focus of this role is coordinating and implementing workflow automation projects across Freight Forwarding business operations, with the expectation that these patterns extend into other domains over time. Rather than owning a single domain vertically, this role works horizontally to identify where workflow, task-routing, and process logic can be centralized, standardized, and automated on the chosen workflow automation platform. You will partner with Freight Forwarding operations leadership, domain TPMs, engineering, and the platform team to design and deliver workflow automation projects end to end — from intake and requirements through configuration, testing, and rollout.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Product Design (the right business workflows)
Own the roadmap for workflow automation projects across Freight Forwarding business operations, covering intake, shipment execution, exception handling, and other process areas identified for automation. Conduct process discovery and stakeholder interviews with Freight Forwarding operations teams to map current-state workflows and identify where a centralized, platform-based approach outperforms manual or point-solution alternatives. Design future-state workflows and validate feasibility with mockups and proofs of concept before committing engineering and platform investment. Partner with domain-aligned TPMs to ensure workflow patterns proven in Freight Forwarding are reusable as automation extends to other business domains.
Technical Design (the right approach)
Define the system-level technical approach for workflow automation projects, including workflow configuration, form and task design, and integration points with Freight Forwarding operational systems. Own the technical approach for task routing, queueing, and exception-handling patterns within the chosen workflow automation platform, in partnership with engineering and the platform team, which own component-level configuration and delivery. Evaluate and recommend integration points between the workflow platform and domain systems (e.g., Cargo.one) and ensure workflow automation patterns follow consistent platform standards. Identify and resolve gaps between how Freight Forwarding operations work today and how the workflow is configured, escalating platform or capability gaps to engineering leadership.
Success (execution and measurement)
Define operational KPIs for workflow automation projects, such as task completion time, exception rates, manual touchpoints per shipment, and adoption of automated workflows across Freight Forwarding operations. Create measurement frameworks for each rollout, with particular emphasis on tracking adoption and impact as new workflows go live. Instrument experiments and evaluate automation impact rigorously, partnering with analytics and data science as needed. Drive adoption of workflow automation tooling through change management and internal enablement, working closely with Freight Forwarding operations leadership.
Cross-team Coordination
Build strong working relationships with Freight Forwarding operations leadership and regional teams, as well as domain leads and TPMs across Rating & Pricing, Sales & Marketing, Sustainability, and Ground/Warehousing. Serve as the primary voice for workflow automation within the TPM function and engineering, ensuring the platform reflects real Freight Forwarding operational needs rather than a one-size-fits-all assumption. Facilitate alignment across operations stakeholders when workflow priorities compete, and escalate trade-offs clearly to TPM and engineering leadership.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- 8+ years of product management experience, with strong preference for candidates who have worked across multiple business functions or built shared/platform capabilities rather than single-domain products.

Tips for Your Workflow Automation Specialist Job Search
Quantify automation outcomes on your resume
Hiring managers want to see what your workflows actually accomplished. Replace vague descriptions with concrete outcomes: time saved per process cycle, error rates reduced, or manual steps eliminated. Generic phrases like 'improved efficiency' get passed over faster than numbers do.
List every platform you have deployed
Workflow automation roles are often filtered by tool. Call out every platform you have built in, such as UiPath, Power Automate, Zapier, Workato, or MuleSoft, even if you used it on a single project. A resume that names tools gets past keyword filters that a tool-agnostic resume misses.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists workflow automation specialist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by the process domain they name
Automation roles vary sharply by domain: finance teams hire for accounts payable workflows, HR teams hire for onboarding automation, and ops teams hire for supply chain triggers. Search by domain alongside the job title so you find openings that match your actual project history.
Prepare a live demo for technical screens
Many hiring teams ask candidates to walk through a workflow they built rather than just describing it. Screenshot decks or a short recorded walkthrough of a real automation, with the business problem explained upfront, consistently outperforms verbal answers in technical rounds.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate pay
In final-round conversations, clarify whether the role is build-only or includes ongoing maintenance, how many systems you will integrate, and whether automation decisions require IT approval. Those factors shape workload and growth ceiling far more than the title does.
Workflow Automation Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most workflow automation specialists?
HP, AT&T, and UNIS are hiring the most workflow automation specialists right now, with openings concentrated in California, Texas, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Demand is particularly active among large enterprises undergoing digital transformation initiatives.
How many workflow automation specialist jobs are remote?
About 36% of workflow automation specialist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of this work is conducted through cloud-based platforms. Roles focused on platform configuration and integration tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring on-site process observation or IT infrastructure access are more likely to be in-person.
How do you become a workflow automation specialist?
Start by learning one major automation platform hands-on, such as Power Automate or Zapier, through free tiers and official learning paths. Build several small automations that solve real problems, document them, and compile them into a portfolio. Then pursue a platform certification to validate your skills formally, and target entry-level roles in business operations or IT support where automation projects already exist.
Can you get hired as a workflow automation specialist with little experience?
Yes, employers regularly hire candidates with limited formal experience if they can demonstrate practical skills. Build automations in free or trial versions of tools like Power Automate or Make, document each project with a clear before-and-after explanation, and apply to roles titled business systems analyst or operations coordinator that involve automation as part of a broader scope rather than as the entire role.
What does the workflow automation specialist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes include an initial recruiter screen focused on tool familiarity, followed by a technical interview where you walk through a workflow you built and explain your design decisions. A take-home or live build challenge is common at mid-level and above. Final rounds typically involve a hiring manager conversation about how you gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and handle automation failures in production.
Where can I find and apply to workflow automation specialist jobs?
You can find and apply to workflow automation specialist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your tools, industry experience, and seniority level, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
