Tips for Your Power Platform Developer Job Search
Tailor your resume to each Power Platform pillar
Recruiters often search for specific app names, so list Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents as distinct skills rather than grouping them under one line. Call out connectors, custom APIs, and environment administration separately.
Earn the PL-200 or PL-400 certification first
Many job postings for power platform developers list the PL-200 Functional Consultant or PL-400 Developer certification as a requirement, not a preference. Earning one before you apply puts you past the resume filter that eliminates uncertified candidates early.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists power platform developer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Show business outcomes in your portfolio
Hiring managers want to see what your solutions actually changed, not just what you built. Document the workflow you automated, how many manual steps it removed, or the reporting time it cut, and make that the headline of each portfolio project.
Prepare for a live canvas or model-driven app build
Technical interviews for this role frequently include a timed build exercise where you create a canvas app or model-driven solution from a brief. Practice building functional apps end-to-end in under an hour so the live session doesn't catch you off guard.
Negotiate using Dataverse and Azure knowledge
If your experience includes Dataverse table design, Azure Logic Apps, or Azure DevOps pipelines alongside the core platform, name those explicitly when discussing compensation. They expand the scope of what you can own and often move you into a higher pay band.
Power Platform Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most power platform developers?
The companies hiring the most power platform developers right now include Lpa, ASTEC, and Barclays, with the largest share of openings in North Carolina, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially strong at large enterprises and federal contractors that run Microsoft 365 at scale.
How many power platform developer jobs are remote?
About 14% of power platform developer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in the Microsoft ecosystem. Power Automate and Power BI positions tend to skew the most remote, while roles that require on-site SharePoint or Teams integration support are more likely to be hybrid or in-person.
How do you become a power platform developer?
Start by learning Power Apps and Power Automate through Microsoft Learn, which provides free structured paths for each product. Build several functional solutions from scratch, publish them to a portfolio, and then pursue the PL-200 or PL-400 certification to validate your skills formally. Once certified, target entry-level roles that emphasize automation or internal app development, where the scope matches what you can already demonstrate.
How do you get hired as a power platform developer with little experience?
Build real solutions for volunteer organizations, small businesses, or your current employer using a free Microsoft developer tenant, then document the business problem each app or flow solved. Hiring managers in this space respond to working demos far more than coursework alone. The PL-200 certification also signals that you understand the platform's business applications even without years of professional history behind you.
What does the power platform developer interview process look like?
Most processes start with a recruiter screen focused on your certification status and specific platform experience, followed by a technical interview where you may walk through a past solution or answer scenario questions about Dataverse design and connector logic. A live or take-home build exercise is common at the final stage, where you create a canvas app or automated flow from a brief. Cultural and stakeholder communication questions often close the process since the role involves translating business needs into technical solutions.
Where can I find and apply to power platform developer jobs?
You can find and apply to power platform developer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits.
