About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About The Team
Technical writers make Stripe products easy to use for developers and everyday users. Our documentation must exemplify quality and instill trust. Stripe cares deeply about the experience of our users, from enterprise software developers to small business owners. Our products and internal tools require innovation and creativity to create an excellent user experience and to increase developer velocity. We need writers with excellent writing ability and solid technical competence to provide an engaging developer experience.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll do
You'll join the Stripe Docs Content team to help users adopt our industry-leading technologies, and to help Stripe product teams ship exemplary documentation at docs.stripe.com.
Responsibilities
- Document Stripe products, including conceptual overviews, task-based guides, APIs, and tutorials for different products
- Maintain content quality through curation, user feedback, and content performance analysis
- Work alongside our developers, product teams, and support engineers to ensure content expertise and documentation accuracy
- Deliver results in a dynamic work environment with plenty of autonomy
- Push Stripe docs forward by dreaming up and implementing new ways to deliver, author, analyze, and interact with technical content
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of technical writing experience
- Able to collaborate, partner with, and learn from other skilled tech writers
- Proficient in HTML and Markdown
- Conversant with Git and VSCode
- Adept at communicating technical concepts clearly and precisely
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with backend languages like Ruby, Go, Python, PHP, Node, or Java
- Experience with large information architecture projects
- Experience balancing multiple product launches
- Experience working with a team of technical writers
LOCATION
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).
In-office expectations
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
Working remotely at Stripe
A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.
PAY AND BENEFITS
The annual US base salary range for this role is $135,800 - $203,800. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.

Writer Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a writer job in San Francisco?
Focus your search on San Francisco's dominant hiring sectors: enterprise software companies in SoMa, media and publishing firms in the Financial District, and healthcare and biotech organizations in Mission Bay. Content writers, UX writers, and technical writers see the steadiest openings. Candidates who tailor their portfolio to show industry-specific writing samples, whether product documentation, long-form journalism, or health content, tend to stand out in this competitive market.
Which companies hire writers in San Francisco?
Employers hiring writers in San Francisco right now include Aramco, Salesforce, and ARMADA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market leans heavily on technology companies, digital media outlets, and healthcare organizations, many of which maintain in-house editorial or content teams.
Are there remote writer jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, writing is one of the more remote-friendly roles because the core work, researching, drafting, and editing, requires only a computer and clear communication. About 40% of writer openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in the local tech and media sectors. UX writing and technical writing roles tend to require the most collaboration, making hybrid arrangements the most common format for those specialties.
How can I get a writer job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is through content coordinator or junior copywriter roles at mid-size tech startups in SoMa, which frequently hire candidates who can show strong writing samples over formal credentials. Local media outlets, nonprofit communications teams in the Mission, and healthcare organizations in Mission Bay also bring on editorial assistants and communications associates at the entry level. Building a focused portfolio of three to five published or spec pieces in a relevant format, product blogs, UX microcopy, or health content, gives you a concrete edge over applicants with only a resume.
Which industries hire the most writers in San Francisco?
The sectors hiring the most writers in San Francisco are Energy, Technology & Software, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Francisco's concentration of enterprise software companies, venture-backed startups, and major healthcare systems creates consistent demand for writers who can translate complex products and services into clear, audience-ready content.
