A&P Mechanic Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a a&p mechanic in Ohio?
You earn an FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate, which is the credential required to work as an a&p mechanic anywhere in the United States including Ohio. The path starts with completing an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School program, available at institutions such as Ohio State University Airport, Sinclair College in Dayton, and Kent State University. After finishing the required curriculum, you pass three FAA exams covering general, airframe, and powerplant subjects, then apply to your local FAA Flight Standards District Office for the certificate.
Which companies hire a&p mechanics in Ohio?
Employers hiring a&p mechanics in Ohio right now include Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Metro Aviation, and United Church Homes, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Ohio's combination of cargo hubs, regional carriers, and corporate aviation operators creates consistent openings across the Columbus, Dayton, and Cleveland metro areas year-round.
Which Ohio cities have the most a&p mechanic jobs?
Logan, Elyria, and Milford account for the largest share of a&p mechanic openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its role as a major cargo and corporate aviation hub anchored by NetJets and the Rickenbacker International Airport complex, while Dayton's deep roots in military aviation and defense contracting sustain strong MRO demand, and Cleveland's commercial service through Hopkins International drives airline and ground support maintenance hiring.
How can I get hired as a a&p mechanic in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School program and applying directly to MRO shops and cargo operators that run structured new-hire programs for recent graduates. Employers in the Dayton and Columbus markets, including defense contractors and cargo carriers at Rickenbacker, regularly bring in certificated mechanics with limited ramp time through apprentice-level maintenance roles. Coming in from an aircraft cleaning, line service, or parts-room position at the same facility is another common bridge, and holding a completed logbook demonstrating supervised hours from your schooling significantly strengthens an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to a&p mechanic jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to a&p mechanic jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your certificate type, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit your situation.
