This is not a full-time or part-time job with a set schedule. Work is dispatched as AOG events and maintenance requests come in. There is no guaranteed number of hours, shifts, or call-outs per week or month. Call volume varies with season and customer demand.
This position fits a technician who already has flexibility in their schedule and wants paid AOG work when it comes up, not a technician who needs a predictable weekly paycheck. If you need guaranteed hours, this position is not the right fit.
What is guaranteed: every dispatched call-out pays a minimum of four hours at your agreed rate, and travel time is paid.
About the Role
Rapid AOG Services is a mobile aircraft maintenance company providing Aircraft on Ground (AOG) response, line maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and recovery support for Part 91 and Part 135 corporate aircraft.
We are seeking an experienced corporate aircraft A&P technician to support our Tampa and West Coast Florida service area. When dispatched, the technician reports to KTPA, picks up the company service vehicle, and travels to the customer's aircraft. Occasional overnight assignments throughout the Florida Panhandle, including Destin and Tallahassee, may be offered.
This is a mobile, field-based role. You will work alone most of the time, directly with flight crews, flight departments, and maintenance controllers, often under time pressure.
Availability Expectations
Because this is on-call work, availability is what makes the position work for both sides. We are looking for a technician who can:
- Respond promptly when contacted for a dispatch and give a clear yes or no.
- Accept after-hours and weekend call-outs on a regular basis.
- Be available for major holidays. AOG events do not stop for holidays, and holiday coverage is a core part of this role.
- Accept occasional overnight assignments in the Florida Panhandle.
Holiday call-outs are paid at 1.5 times the technician's regular hourly rate.
Responsibilities
- Respond to dispatched AOG and line-maintenance events throughout Tampa and West Coast Florida.
- Perform inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, servicing, component replacements, operational checks, and scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Diagnose and correct mechanical, electrical, and avionics discrepancies.
- Complete maintenance records in accordance with FAA regulations, approved technical data, and company procedures.
- Communicate professionally with aircraft owners, flight crews, maintenance controllers, flight departments, FBO personnel, and Rapid AOG management.
- Keep the company service vehicle clean, organized, and properly stocked, and maintain accountability for company tools and equipment.
- Represent Rapid AOG Services with professionalism, integrity, and strong customer service.

- KFMY — Page Field (Fort Myers)
- KAPF — Naples Airport
- Other West Coast Florida airports as required
Occasional overnight travel (Florida Panhandle):
- KTLH — Tallahassee International Airport
- KECP — Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (Panama City)
- KDTS — Destin Executive Airport
- KVPS — Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport
- KCEW — Bob Sikes Airport (Crestview)
- Other Panhandle airports as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
- Minimum five years of recent corporate or business aviation maintenance experience
- Experience supporting Part 91 and/or Part 135 corporate aircraft
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform line maintenance independently with minimal supervision
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills
- Ability to interpret aircraft maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and approved technical data
- Strong customer-service and professional communication skills
- Live within reasonable driving distance of KTPA and able to report there for dispatch
- Availability for after-hours, weekend, and holiday call-outs
- Willingness to travel throughout West Coast Florida and accept occasional overnight assignments in the Florida Panhandle
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to qualify for airport security badging (company-sponsored badges are for Rapid AOG work only)

- Embraer Phenom series
- Bombardier Challenger series
- Bombardier Global series
- Gulfstream series
- Dassault Falcon series
Additional preferred qualifications:
- Garmin G3000 or G5000 experience
- Mobile AOG maintenance experience
- Advanced electrical and avionics troubleshooting
- Corporate aircraft factory training
- Inspection Authorization (not required)
- Previous airport security badge or Air Operations Area driving experience
Who This Position Is Not For
This position is intended for experienced corporate and business aviation technicians. Applicants whose experience is limited to airline (Part 121) maintenance, heavy maintenance/MRO facilities, or military aircraft will not be considered unless they also have recent, direct corporate aircraft maintenance experience.
This is not a hangar-based or airline-style role, and it is not a position with guaranteed hours. Please apply only if you understand and are comfortable with on-call, as-needed work.
Pay and Compensation
- $50–$60 per hour, paid as a 1099 independent contractor
- Final rate based on experience, aircraft qualifications, factory training, and troubleshooting capability
- Four-hour minimum pay for every dispatched call-out
- Paid travel time
- Holiday call-outs paid at 1.5 times the regular hourly rate
- $75 daily per diem for qualifying overnight travel assignments
- No guaranteed minimum hours per week or month
