Accountant Jobs in Grand Rapids: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an accountant job in Grand Rapids?
The strongest hiring activity in Grand Rapids is concentrated in healthcare systems, West Michigan manufacturing companies, regional banks, and professional services firms clustered downtown and in the Cascade corridor. Candidates with experience in cost accounting, financial reporting, or audit tend to stand out, and familiarity with ERP systems common in manufacturing gives a real edge in this market. Networking through the West Michigan chapter of the IMA or local CPA groups also opens doors that job boards alone don't.
Which companies hire accountants in Grand Rapids?
Employers hiring accountants in Grand Rapids right now include Rockford, Acrisure, and Duravent, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids draws from a wide mix of large regional employers including healthcare networks, furniture and manufacturing companies, and locally headquartered financial institutions, alongside a strong presence of regional public accounting firms.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Grand Rapids?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role, since positions tied to physical operations like plant accounting or on-site audit are typically in person, while financial analysis, tax preparation, and bookkeeping roles run more remote-friendly. About 20% of accountant openings tied to Grand Rapids are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in corporate and professional services accounting. Tax and advisory roles at regional firms in the downtown Grand Rapids area are among the most likely to offer hybrid arrangements.
How can I get an accountant job in Grand Rapids with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Grand Rapids is targeting staff accountant or accounts payable roles at mid-size manufacturers, healthcare systems, or regional distributors in the Kentwood and Byron Center industrial areas, where turnover creates consistent openings for candidates without deep experience. Grand Valley State University's accounting program has strong employer ties locally, and internship pipelines through GVSU or Davenport University often convert to full-time offers. Emphasizing proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, or NetSuite and any exposure to month-end close processes helps entry-level candidates compete.
Which industries hire the most accountants in Grand Rapids?
Most accountant openings in Grand Rapids sit in Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Grand Rapids' economy is anchored by large healthcare networks like Corewell Health, a deep manufacturing base including office furniture and auto-adjacent suppliers, and a growing financial services sector, all of which generate consistent demand for accounting talent across both public and private employers.
