Finance Assistant Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance assistant in Michigan?
Most Michigan employers require at least an associate degree in accounting or finance, though a bachelor's degree is preferred for positions at larger organizations. Michigan does not require a state-issued license for finance assistants, but earning a credential such as the AIPB Bookkeeper Certification or the NACPB Accounting Certificate strengthens your candidacy. Candidates who complete coursework through Michigan community colleges or universities and demonstrate hands-on software skills move through hiring the fastest.
Which companies hire finance assistants in Michigan?
Employers hiring finance assistants in Michigan right now include The University of Michigan, Oakland University, and IRON COUNTY MEDICAL CARE FACILITY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's automotive, healthcare, and utilities sectors drive consistent year-round demand, particularly at large anchor employers with regional finance centers across the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most finance assistant jobs?
Flint, Ann Arbor, and Rochester have the most finance assistant openings in Michigan. Detroit leads because of its concentration of automotive headquarters, regional banks, and large health systems, while Grand Rapids draws hiring from its manufacturing base and growing healthcare sector, and Lansing sees steady demand from state government agencies and insurance carriers headquartered in the capital region.
Are there remote finance assistant jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields since finance assistant work is primarily desk-based and document-driven. About 25% of finance assistant openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's strong fit with distributed team structures. Functions like accounts payable processing, invoice reconciliation, and financial reporting are the most frequently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a finance assistant in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to accounts payable or billing coordinator roles at Michigan healthcare systems such as Henry Ford Health or Spectrum Health, which regularly post openings for candidates with limited experience and offer on-the-job training. Community college accounting programs at Lansing Community College or Grand Rapids Community College pair well with an internship at a local CPA firm or credit union. Lateral moves from administrative assistant or data entry roles at finance departments are also a recognized stepping stone, and completing a bookkeeping certification before applying gives your application a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to finance assistant jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to finance assistant jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings. Search the listings to find roles that match your background, then apply directly to the ones that fit your experience and location preferences.
