Tax Senior Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior manager in Michigan?
Reaching the tax senior manager level in Michigan typically requires a CPA license issued or recognized by the Michigan Board of Accountancy, which oversees licensure in the state. Most candidates build toward this role through a public accounting career path or a corporate tax department, starting in staff or senior associate roles. An advanced degree such as an MST or MBA with a tax concentration strengthens candidacy, and experience supervising Michigan-specific engagements is often the deciding factor at this level.
How much do tax senior managers make in Michigan?
Tax senior managers in Michigan earn a median of about $78,820 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,620 for the lowest 10% to over $131,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring tax senior managers in Michigan right now include Hantz, BDO, and UHY LLP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of Big Four and regional accounting firms in metro Detroit, combined with the in-house tax functions of major automotive and manufacturing companies, keeps demand for this level steady throughout the year.
Which Michigan cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Detroit, Troy, and Grand Rapids have the most tax senior manager openings in Michigan. Detroit leads because of its dense cluster of Big Four offices, regional CPA firms, and corporate tax departments tied to the automotive and manufacturing industries, while Grand Rapids draws hiring from its growing professional services sector and Ann Arbor benefits from the presence of technology companies and university-affiliated institutions.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax senior management is largely analytical and advisory work that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 26% of tax senior manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broader shift in professional services toward flexible work. Roles focused on tax compliance, provision, and advisory work tend to have the most remote flexibility, while positions with heavy client-facing or team leadership responsibilities more often require some in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a tax senior manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for candidates without direct senior manager experience is moving laterally from a tax manager or senior associate role within a Michigan public accounting firm or corporate tax department. Large Michigan employers and Big Four offices in Detroit recruit tax staff at every level and often promote from within, so joining as a senior associate or tax manager and building Michigan-specific client experience is the clearest route. Holding an active Michigan CPA license and any MST coursework from Michigan institutions like Wayne State or Michigan State gives candidates a measurable edge when applying for the next step.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to tax senior manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. The listings cover public accounting firms, corporate tax departments, and other Michigan employers actively hiring at this level. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly.
