Accountant Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a accountant job in Pittsburgh?
Focus your search on Pittsburgh's healthcare systems, regional banks, and energy and manufacturing firms, which hire accountants at a consistent pace year-round. Roles concentrate Downtown, in Oakland near the universities, and in the suburban corridors along Route 19 and the Parkway East. CPA licensure gives you a clear edge, and familiarity with fund accounting or cost accounting is valuable given the mix of nonprofits and industrial employers in the metro.
Which companies hire accountants in Pittsburgh?
Companies currently hiring accountants in Pittsburgh include BNY, GNC, and Wabtec, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pittsburgh's accounting market is anchored by large health systems, regional financial institutions, and longstanding industrial and energy companies with significant compliance and reporting needs.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: advisory, financial reporting, and tax preparation work tends to be remote-friendly, while internal audit and accounts payable roles more often require on-site presence. About 43% of accountant openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at larger Downtown and Oakland employers. General ledger and close-cycle work is where Pittsburgh firms most frequently offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get a accountant job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through staff accountant or accounting associate roles at regional healthcare systems or mid-size manufacturing firms, which hire recent graduates on a predictable cycle. Carnegie Mellon and Pitt both have relationships with local employers that recruit on campus. Internships at Downtown CPA firms or the accounting departments of Pittsburgh's large nonprofits are a practical way to build local references and convert to full-time. Exposure to ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, common in Pittsburgh's industrial sector, strengthens any entry-level application.
