How do I get a advanced practice provider job in Washington?
Washington's advanced practice provider market is anchored by its academic medical centers, federal health agencies, and a dense network of specialty and community health clinics serving a large residential and transient population. Candidates who have experience in primary care, behavioral health, or oncology tend to find the most openings. Highlighting familiarity with federally qualified health centers or VA-affiliated practices gives a real edge in this city's market.
Which companies hire advanced practice providers in Washington?

Washington's employer mix skews toward large academic health systems, federally affiliated hospitals, and safety-net clinics serving the District's diverse neighborhoods.
Are there remote advanced practice provider jobs in Washington?
Yes, though opportunities are limited given that most advanced practice provider roles involve direct patient care and require an on-site presence. About 0% of advanced practice provider openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth and care-coordination roles making up the bulk of those positions. Federal health contractors and behavioral health providers in Washington are the most active in offering remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get a advanced practice provider job in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Washington is through residency or fellowship programs at the District's academic medical centers, which are designed to bridge new graduates into supervised clinical practice. Federally qualified health centers in neighborhoods like Anacostia and Columbia Heights regularly hire new advanced practice providers who are willing to work underserved populations. Volunteer clinical hours at DC-area community health organizations and familiarity with electronic health record systems used locally also strengthen an entry-level application.
