Aerospace Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a aerospace in Alabama?
Most aerospace roles in Alabama require a bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering from an accredited program, though some advanced positions expect a master's degree. Alabama does not issue a state-specific aerospace license, but many positions require professional engineer registration through the Alabama State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Defense-focused roles additionally require a federal security clearance, which employers sponsor after hire.
Which companies hire aerospaces in Alabama?
Employers hiring aerospaces in Alabama right now include PPG, University of Alabama, and Guyse Industries, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Alabama's deep concentration of defense and space contractors, particularly around the Huntsville area, means most of these employers maintain large, ongoing engineering workforces rather than hiring only for sporadic openings.
Which Alabama cities have the most aerospace jobs?
Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and Dothan account for the largest share of aerospace openings in Alabama. Huntsville dominates because it hosts NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal, and the headquarters or major facilities of prime defense contractors, while Decatur and Birmingham support manufacturing, propulsion testing, and systems engineering roles tied to those anchor programs.
Are there remote aerospace jobs in Alabama?
Yes, but they're rare. About 10% of aerospace openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves physical hardware, test facilities, and classified environments that require on-site presence. The roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are systems analysis, technical writing, and program management positions that are not tied to a specific lab or production floor.
How can I get hired as a aerospace in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or co-op through the Alabama Space Grant Consortium, which partners with Alabama universities and places students at NASA Marshall and affiliated contractors. Boeing and Lockheed Martin both run structured early-career rotational programs at their Huntsville operations for recent engineering graduates. Candidates who hold an EIT certification from the Alabama State Board of Licensure and have a capstone project or thesis in propulsion, structures, or avionics stand out against other new-grad applicants.
Where can I find and apply to aerospace jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to aerospace jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and experience level, and apply directly through each posting without any additional steps required.
