Tips for Your Agriculture Job Search
Tailor your resume to the crop or commodity
Employers in grain farming, dairy, or horticulture want to see experience with their specific crop or animal type. List the commodities, acreage scales, and equipment you have worked with directly rather than describing duties in general terms.
List your certifications and applicator licenses
Pesticide applicator licenses, CDL endorsements, and food safety certifications like FSMA compliance training are filtering criteria in many agriculture job postings. Place them in a dedicated credentials section near the top of your resume so hiring managers spot them fast.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists agriculture openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target employers by their operation size
Large commodity producers and agribusiness corporations hire on a rolling basis year-round, while small family farms often post positions only weeks before the season starts. Adjust your timing and search filters to match the type of operation you want to join.
Prepare for hands-on skills demonstrations
Many agriculture interviews include a walk-through of your equipment operation or a practical task like scouting a field or reading a soil report. Know your way around the specific machinery listed in the job posting and be ready to talk through your decision-making process on the spot.
Negotiate your housing and benefits package clearly
On-site housing, vehicle use, and end-of-season bonuses are common in agriculture roles but rarely detailed in the initial offer. Ask for the full compensation package in writing, including any deductions for provided housing, before you accept.
Agriculture Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most agricultures?
The companies hiring the most agricultures right now include Del Norte Harvesting, Black Gold Farms, and Spartans Agricultural Builders, with the largest share of openings in North Dakota, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings shift with the growing season, so checking back regularly gives you the most current picture.
How many agriculture jobs are remote?
About 1% of agriculture openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is low compared to most industries given the hands-on nature of the work. The roles most likely to offer remote flexibility are in agribusiness sales, agricultural consulting, precision agriculture data analysis, and farm management software support.
How do you become an agriculture professional?
Start with a degree or vocational training in agronomy, animal science, horticulture, or a related field, or build hands-on experience through seasonal farm work, internships, or cooperative programs. Earn any required state certifications, such as pesticide applicator or food safety credentials. Build familiarity with the equipment and crops common to your target region, then apply to entry-level field or production roles to grow from there.
Can you get an agriculture job with little or no experience?
Yes, seasonal and entry-level positions in crop harvesting, irrigation, or livestock care regularly hire candidates with no prior professional experience in agriculture. Demonstrating physical readiness, reliability, and basic equipment awareness in your application goes a long way. Community college programs, FFA involvement, or volunteer work on a farm also signal commitment to employers who are willing to train the right candidate.
What does the agriculture interview process look like?
Most agriculture interviews begin with a phone or video screen to confirm your availability, relevant background, and any required certifications. An in-person interview typically follows, often on-site at the farm or facility, where you may be asked to walk through your experience with specific equipment or crops. Some employers include a practical skills component, such as a field walkthrough or equipment check, before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to agriculture jobs?
You can find and apply to agriculture jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to each one that fits your background and goals.
