AI Developer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai developer in Texas?
Becoming an ai developer in Texas starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field, as no state-issued license is required for this role. Most Texas employers expect demonstrated experience with machine learning frameworks and cloud platforms, which candidates build through university programs, bootcamps, or project portfolios. Texas universities including UT Austin and Texas A&M offer graduate AI programs that carry weight with in-state employers.
How much do AI developers make in Texas?
AI developers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ai developers in Texas?
Employers hiring ai developers in Texas right now include EY, University of Texas at El Paso, and Information Technology Senior Management Forum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, financial services, and defense companies means demand is broad, with large enterprise employers and mid-size technology firms both posting consistently.
Which Texas cities have the most ai developer jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most ai developer openings in Texas. Austin's dense technology sector and startup ecosystem drive the highest concentration of pure AI roles, while Dallas-Fort Worth attracts demand through its financial services and corporate headquarters cluster, and Houston's energy and aerospace industries generate steady need for applied AI and data engineering talent.
Are there remote ai developer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 54% of ai developer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how fully desk-based this work is by nature. Model development, research, and data pipeline engineering tend to be the most remote-eligible functions, while roles requiring access to proprietary hardware or on-site infrastructure are more likely to require in-office attendance.
How can I get hired as a ai developer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior machine learning engineer role, which large Texas employers in financial technology and enterprise software fill from new graduates with strong project portfolios. Companies like Dell, AT&T, and Texas Instruments run early-career technical programs that include AI and data engineering tracks. Completing a recognized graduate certificate or contributing to open-source ML projects on GitHub gives candidates a concrete edge when competing against others with limited professional history.
