AI Intern Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai intern in California?
The most direct path is to be actively enrolled in a computer science, data science, or AI-focused degree program at a California university such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, Stanford, or UC San Diego, which have strong pipelines into the state's top tech employers. No state-issued license is required for ai intern roles. A portfolio of machine learning projects on GitHub and at least one completed AI or data science course strengthens applications considerably.
Which companies hire ai interns in California?
Employers hiring ai interns in California right now include TikTok, PlusAI, and Microsoft, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of AI-focused headquarters and research labs means the state consistently produces more ai intern openings than any other in the country.
Which California cities have the most ai intern jobs?
San Jose, San Francisco, and Santa Clara consistently have the most ai intern openings in California. The San Francisco Bay Area and San Jose concentration reflects the headquarters presence of major technology companies and AI research labs, while Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment tech, autonomous vehicles, and a growing enterprise AI sector anchored by large employers across both industries.
Are there remote ai intern jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 8% of ai intern openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and code-driven nature of the work. The sub-areas most likely to be fully remote are data labeling, model evaluation, and research assistant roles, while applied engineering internships more often require on-site access to compute infrastructure or lab environments.
How can I get hired as a ai intern in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying through a university's on-campus recruiting program, which gives candidates direct access to structured internship pipelines at California employers before competing on the open market. Large California tech companies run formal new-grad and internship cohort programs for students with limited experience. Building a public GitHub portfolio with two or three ML projects, completing a recognized online AI certification, and targeting smaller California startups that offer paid internships to early-stage students are all concrete steps that substitute for a prior work history.
Where can I find and apply to ai intern jobs in California?
You can find and apply to ai intern jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated in real time. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your skills and location, and apply directly through the listing. No profile creation is required to see and apply to roles.
