INTRODUCTION
The Impact You Will Have in This Role As a Application Support Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, resiliency, and operational excellence of DTCC's Institutional Trade Processing (ITP) platforms that support global cross-border equity and debt trade processing and settlement. Leveraging Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, you will drive stability and continuous improvement across a complex ecosystem of distributed systems, cloud technologies, OpenShift Container Platform (OCP), and enterprise messaging platforms. Your work will help reduce operational risk, improve system availability, automate manual processes, and strengthen the reliability of business-critical services. Supporting a portfolio of 40+ mission-critical applications, you will partner with globally distributed teams across Application Development, Infrastructure, Network, Cloud, and Operations to deliver seamless production support, rapid incident resolution, and continuous service modernization.
YOUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Reliability Engineering & Production Support
- Monitor application and platform health, proactively identifying and resolving reliability risks.
- Lead incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA) activities for critical production issues.
- Drive preventative actions and service improvements to reduce recurring incidents and improve system stability.
- Assess business impact and coordinate resolution efforts across technology and business teams.
Application Reliability & Operational Excellence
- Ensure application availability, performance, and resiliency across production environments.
- Execute application recovery, failover, restart, and availability management procedures.
- Support critical processing schedules and operational commitments.
Knowledge Management & Operational Readiness
- Maintain and update support runbooks, knowledge articles, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
- Ensure documentation remains current and audit-ready.
- Establish escalation paths and SME contact information.
Change, Release & Deployment Management
- Support application releases, vendor upgrades, and production deployments.
- Validate implementation readiness and ensure successful deployment outcomes.
- Partner with development teams to improve release quality and operational readiness.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Execute Disaster Recovery (DR) procedures during planned tests and unplanned events.
- Maintain DR scripts and evidence required for BCM and audit compliance.
- Participate in resilience and recovery exercises.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
- Enhance monitoring, observability, alerting, and support tooling.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using SRE and operational best practices.
Disaster Recovery & Business Resiliency
- Execute and support disaster recovery (DR) testing, recovery procedures, and resilience exercises.
- Maintain recovery documentation, scripts, and audit evidence required for business continuity and regulatory compliance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Application Development, Infrastructure, Database, Cloud, Security, and Product teams to ensure service reliability.
- Serve as a key stakeholder during major incidents, change events, and operational reviews.
- Build strong relationships across global teams to drive operational excellence and service improvements.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Support audits, control testing, and evidence collection activities.
- Ensure operational processes align with security, risk, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain strong control practices that support DTCC's operational resilience objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent practical experience
- 4 years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications.

- Second Shift (EST) - Monday – Friday
- 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM EST

- Understanding of messaging systems, middleware, networking, or integration platforms (IBM MQ, Kafka, IIB, or similar).
- Exposure to containers and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, and OpenShift.
- Scripting or programming experience using Python or similar languages.
- Knowledge of financial services, securities processing, or capital markets environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on operational excellence, automation, and continuous improvement.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Exposure to mainframe environments, including batch processing, job monitoring, and JCL.
- Experience supporting Kafka-based applications and event-driven architectures.
- Exposure to AI-driven automation or operational efficiency initiatives in production support environments.
