Michelangelo's Coffee House—an independently-owned and operated café located at the top of State Street—is seeking to fill an assistant manager / café lead role.

We are searching for a full-time candidate with prior café and service industry experience, a passion for coffee, and a desire to connect with the community in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Established in 1997, Michelangelo's Coffee House has a passion for serving Madison’s downtown community with a personal and positive experience. Featuring socially conscious, Fair Trade and Organic Certified coffees in addition to sandwiches, soups, and housemade desserts - Michelangelo's prides itself on prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service and values the relationships we have built between our customers and teammates over the years.

Responsibilities Include:

• Creating a welcoming and efficient customer service experience for all.
• Ringing up food and beverage orders through our point of sale system, ensuring transactions are processed efficiently and accurately.
• Producing a consistent and high-quality product through brewing coffee and teas, crafting espresso and specialty drinks, and food preparation.
• Upholding our store cleanliness and organization standards—both front of house and back of house. General cleaning tasks, restocking, and proper knowledge of food safety are a must.
• Opening and closing the store following company procedures.
• Supervising, teaching, and guiding both new and current employees to complete tasks and achieve goals.
• Ordering and inventory management.

Position Requirements:

• Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills. Eager to create a memorable experience, hospitable, and anticipates needs of both customers and teammates.
• Maintaining a strong level of professionalism, respect, and integrity while representing the store.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and being on your feet for the duration of your shift. Must demonstrate the ability to multitask, maintain a sense of urgency, rise to challenges, and be accountable for your work.
• A minimum of two years of barista experience or experience in an equivalent role.
• A full-time, 40 hour/week, commitment is expected - with optional overtime available only if desired.
• Flexible availability, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings on both weekdays and weekends.
• Must be able to lift and carry 30+ lbs

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary computation is based on an hourly wage. Compensation for this role starts at $14/ hour base wage with tips ranging from $6 - $20+/hour (averaging $10/hour). Starting base wage, guaranteed wages, and managing wages or salary are negotiable based on prior experience and desired responsibility.
