Automation Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation in Louisiana?
Most automation roles in Louisiana are entered through a two- or four-year degree in electrical engineering technology, instrumentation, or industrial automation from programs at LSU, Louisiana Tech, or Delgado Community College. Louisiana does not issue a state-specific automation license, but many employers require ISA Certified Control Systems Technician credentials or equivalent vendor certifications. Completing an apprenticeship or co-op through a Louisiana petrochemical or manufacturing employer is one of the most direct paths into the field.
Which companies hire automations in Louisiana?
Employers hiring automations in Louisiana right now include EDG, JLL, and Citgo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's industrial base in refining, chemicals, and utilities means large facility operators and engineering contractors are consistently among the most active hirers in the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most automation jobs?
The cities with the most automation openings in Louisiana are Baton Rouge, Plaquemine, and New Orleans. Baton Rouge leads because of the dense concentration of petrochemical plants and refineries along the Mississippi River corridor, while New Orleans draws activity from utilities, port infrastructure, and engineering firms, and Lake Charles benefits from major LNG and industrial expansion projects that have driven sustained demand for controls and instrumentation talent.
Are there remote automation jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Automation work in Louisiana is heavily tied to plant floors, control rooms, and industrial sites where hands-on presence is required. About 57% of automation openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in systems architecture, software configuration, or project engineering rather than field commissioning or maintenance roles.
How can I get hired as a automation in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an instrumentation or automation technician role at a Louisiana petrochemical or manufacturing facility, where employers like large refinery operators and engineering contractors regularly hire graduates from two-year programs. Delgado Community College and Sowela Technical Community College offer instrumentation programs that lead directly to entry-level plant positions. Moving laterally from an electrical technician or field service role is another common route, and earning an entry-level ISA certification strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to automation jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to automation jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
