Community Outreach Specialist Jobs in Louisiana

The Community Outreach Coordinator supports the growth of Second Harvest Food Bank's volunteer program and helps coordinate outreach efforts to raise awareness of volunteer opportunities within our facility.

Primary Relationships

This position reports to the Community Engagement Manager. Primary working relationships include the Community Engagement Manager, Warehouse Supervisor, and Executive Chef.

Principal Accountabilities

• Work closely with the Community Engagement Manager to build and maintain a strong volunteer management program.
• Support volunteer scheduling, data entry, and reporting using the VolunteerHub application.
• Help lead volunteer orientations, facility tours, and announcements.
• Handle administrative tasks such as responding to volunteer inquiries by phone or email, filing documents, data entry, and other duties as needed.

Volunteer Education

• Build awareness of and engagement with volunteer opportunities, both within our facility and with community partners.
• Greet, orient, and welcome volunteers, including reviewing safety measures and expectations.
• Contribute volunteer stories, schedules, and event updates to the monthly newsletter.
• Create and maintain volunteer information boards as needed.

Data Reporting

• Track and report volunteer activity, including cancellations.
• Support administrative and communication processes for volunteer scheduling and registration, assisting other departments (Operations, Impact, Marketing & Development, and Human Resources) with volunteer scheduling as needed.
• Maintain an organized filing system for waivers and other volunteer forms.
• Help prepare completed service-hour letters as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience: 1–2 years of experience in a public-facing role involving volunteer coordination, public relations, marketing, or customer service.

Skills and Capabilities

The ideal candidate will bring most of the following:

• Familiarity with standard office practices and procedures, including reception, recordkeeping, prioritizing workload, and using standard office equipment and computers; ability to learn in-house software and reporting systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong problem-solving and interpersonal/behavior-management skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a strong customer-service orientation.

Allowable Substitutions: A combination of education, experience, and training that demonstrates the equivalent knowledge and skills required for this role may be considered, at the company's discretion, in place of the education and experience requirements listed above.

Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
