Battery Energy Storage Systems Bess Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a battery energy storage systems bess in Colorado?
Most Colorado employers expect a combination of formal education and hands-on credentials, typically an associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, energy technology, or a related field alongside NABCEP certification. Colorado does not issue a single state license exclusive to BESS roles, but electricians working on storage systems must hold a Colorado electrical license through the State Electrical Board. Entry-level candidates often begin in solar installation or electrical work before specializing in storage systems.
Which companies hire battery energy storage systems besss in Colorado?
Employers hiring battery energy storage systems besss in Colorado right now include Sungrow USA Corporation, Primoris Services Corporation, and NEI Electric Power Engineering, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Colorado's push toward renewable portfolio standards and grid resilience has kept utility companies and independent power producers among the most consistent hirers in the state.
Which Colorado cities have the most battery energy storage systems bess jobs?
The cities with the most battery energy storage systems bess openings in Colorado are Denver, Lakewood, and Colorado. The Denver metro anchors the market as the hub for utility headquarters and engineering firms, while Boulder draws cleantech startups and research-driven employers, and Colorado Springs supports military and municipal grid projects that increasingly incorporate large-scale storage solutions.
Are there remote battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. Battery energy storage systems bess work is fundamentally hands-on, involving physical installation, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting that cannot be done remotely. About 0% of battery energy storage systems bess openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles are almost exclusively in project engineering, systems design, or technical sales rather than field operations.
How can I get hired as a battery energy storage systems bess in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a Colorado electrical apprenticeship program, such as those run through the Independent Electrical Contractors of Colorado or IBEW Local 68, which place apprentices directly on solar and storage projects. Xcel Energy and regional engineering contractors regularly bring on entry-level field technicians with a strong electrical foundation even without dedicated BESS experience. Earning an OSHA 10 card and completing a NABCEP entry-level exam prep course will strengthen any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to battery energy storage systems bess jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the listings that fit your background and availability.
