Most business unit manager roles in Montana require a bachelor's degree in business administration, management, finance, or a related field, combined with several years of progressive leadership experience. Montana does not issue a state license specific to this role. Employers in regulated sectors such as healthcare or banking may expect relevant industry credentials, such as those recognized by the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, alongside a demonstrated record of managing teams and budgets.
How much do business unit managers make in Montana?
Business unit managers in Montana earn a median of about $91,380 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,890 for the lowest 10% to over $187,260 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business unit managers in Montana?

Montana's healthcare systems, energy utilities, and regional financial institutions are among the most consistent sources of business unit manager openings in the state.
Which Montana cities have the most business unit manager jobs?
Billings, Kalispell, and Bozeman have the most business unit manager openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share as the state's commercial hub, anchored by major healthcare, energy, and financial services employers, while Missoula's university and healthcare presence fuels demand there, and Great Falls draws openings through its regional healthcare systems and public sector organizations.
Are there remote business unit manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, since business unit managers typically oversee on-site teams and operations. About 0% of business unit manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote arrangements most often found in corporate strategy, regional sales management, or financial oversight functions that don't require daily floor presence.
