Operations Project Manager Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operations project manager in Montana?
Most operations project manager roles in Montana require a bachelor's degree in business, operations management, or a closely related field, followed by hands-on project coordination experience. Montana does not require a state-issued license for this role, but earning a Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute is the clearest way to move into mid-level and senior positions. Large Montana employers in healthcare and government services often promote internally from coordinator or analyst roles once a candidate holds that credential.
How much do operations project managers make in Montana?
Operations project managers in Montana earn a median of about $87,890 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,680 for the lowest 10% to over $143,170 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire operations project managers in Montana?
Companies currently hiring operations project managers in Montana include Walgreens, CVS Health, and HDR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's healthcare networks, state agencies, and energy sector firms tend to post the most consistent volume of these openings throughout the year.
Which Montana cities have the most operations project manager jobs?
Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula account for the most operations project manager openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share given its concentration of regional healthcare systems, energy companies, and corporate headquarters, while Missoula's university presence and growing tech sector support steady demand, and Great Falls benefits from Malmstrom Air Force Base and state agency offices that regularly staff operations and project roles.
Are there remote operations project manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, and more than many field-based roles, since operations project management is largely desk and systems work that translates well to remote settings. About 12% of operations project manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting employer flexibility in this profession. Process improvement, reporting, and vendor coordination duties are the functions most commonly performed remotely, while on-site oversight of physical operations or capital projects typically requires in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a operations project manager in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an operations coordinator or project administrator role at one of Montana's larger healthcare systems, such as Billings Clinic or Providence St. Patrick Hospital, or within a state government agency that runs structured onboarding programs for administrative and operations staff. Earning a CAPM credential before applying signals commitment and closes the experience gap. Adjacent roles in scheduling, logistics coordination, or office operations management are common stepping stones, and Montana employers in construction and energy regularly hire associates who can grow into full project management scope.
Where can I find and apply to operations project manager jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to operations project manager jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to each one.
