Operations Project Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operations project manager in California?
Most California employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, operations, or a related field alongside demonstrated project leadership experience. California does not issue a state license for this role, but the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute is widely treated as the professional standard. Many California candidates build their foundation in coordinator or analyst roles at large technology, healthcare, or logistics companies before moving into full project manager titles.
How much do operations project managers make in California?
Operations project managers in California earn a median of about $120,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,180 for the lowest 10% to over $188,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire operations project managers in California?
Employers hiring operations project managers in California right now include BKF Engineers, TikTok, and Lime, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's mix of technology headquarters, large integrated health systems, and defense contractors means openings appear across a wider range of industries than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most operations project manager jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego have the most operations project manager openings in California. Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment operations, healthcare networks, and logistics hubs, San Francisco and the broader Bay Area concentrate hiring inside technology and biotech companies, and San Diego adds defense and life sciences employers that run large internal operations teams.
Are there remote operations project manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 39% of operations project manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the coordination work happens in meetings and shared software rather than on a physical floor. The project phases most suited to full remote work are planning, reporting, and stakeholder communication, while implementation oversight often requires at least periodic on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a operations project manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or operations analyst role at a large California employer, where you can build a track of end-to-end project ownership before pursuing a manager title. Kaiser Permanente, Northrop Grumman, and major Bay Area technology companies run rotational or associate program manager programs that explicitly target candidates without prior PM titles. Earning a CAPM certification before applying and assembling a portfolio of even small-scale process improvements strengthens an application considerably against more experienced candidates.
Where can I find and apply to operations project manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to operations project manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated on an ongoing basis. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employer through each listing.
