- Demonstrated experience supporting C-suite or SVP-level executives — managing complex calendars, stakeholder commitments, and leadership operating rhythms at pace
- Exposure to partner, channel, or sales organisations is strongly preferred; an understanding of partner-led GTM motions is desired
- Proven track record of running cross-functional programs end-to-end
- Experience developing executive-level communications, presentations, and briefing materials for senior leadership and external audiences
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

Chief Of Staff Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chief of staff in California?
Becoming a chief of staff in California typically requires building a strong foundation in strategy, operations, or management consulting before stepping into the role. Most California employers expect candidates to have held senior individual contributor or manager-level roles in adjacent functions like business operations, finance, or program management. An MBA from a California business school can accelerate the path, and experience inside a California technology company, health system, or government agency carries significant weight in hiring decisions.
Which companies hire chief of staffs in California?
Employers hiring chief of staffs in California right now include Astera Labs, Commure, and Altruist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major health systems, and entertainment studios means demand for the role is distributed across a wide range of industries and company sizes.
Which California cities have the most chief of staff jobs?
San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles account for the most chief of staff openings in California. San Francisco leads because of its dense concentration of technology companies and venture-backed startups that rely heavily on chiefs of staff to support founders and executives, while Los Angeles draws demand from entertainment, media, and a growing tech sector, and San Diego contributes through its biotech and defense industries.
Are there remote chief of staff jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, since chief of staff work is inherently relationship-driven and often requires in-person executive access. About 11% of chief of staff openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements far outnumbering fully remote. The parts of the role most likely to be done remotely are project tracking, reporting, and written communications rather than executive meetings or stakeholder sessions.
How can I get hired as a chief of staff in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a chief of staff associate or chief of staff rotational role, programs that large California technology companies and health systems use to develop early-career candidates for the function. Lateral moves from senior program manager, strategy analyst, or executive business partner roles are common stepping stones. Building experience inside a California government agency or large nonprofit executive office is another credible path, and candidates who can demonstrate tangible impact on organizational priorities through a portfolio or case studies gain an edge.
Where can I find and apply to chief of staff jobs in California?
You can find and apply to chief of staff jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the positions that match.
