Cath Lab Tech Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cath lab tech in California?
Most California employers require completion of an accredited cardiovascular technology, radiologic technology, or related allied health program, followed by obtaining the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credential through Cardiovascular Credentialing International. California does not issue a separate state license for cath lab techs, but many positions require a California Radiologic Technology license from the California Department of Public Health if fluoroscopy is performed. Completing a clinical internship at a California hospital system significantly strengthens your candidacy.
How much do cath lab teches make in California?
Cath lab teches in California earn a median of about $78,170 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $54,720 for the lowest 10% to over $157,470 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cath lab techs in California?
Employers hiring cath lab techs in California right now include Prime Healthcare Services, CommonSpirit Health, and Trinity Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health systems and academic medical centers drive consistent demand year-round, particularly those with high-volume interventional cardiology and electrophysiology programs.
Which California cities have the most cath lab tech jobs?
The cities with the most cath lab tech openings in California are Fresno, Stockton, and Victorville. Los Angeles leads due to the sheer volume of major hospital systems and specialty cardiovascular centers concentrated there, while San Francisco and San Diego benefit from large academic medical centers and established regional health networks that maintain active cath lab staffing.
Are there remote cath lab tech jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Cath lab tech work is inherently hands-on and performed in a sterile procedural suite, so the role cannot be done remotely in its primary form. About 0% of cath lab tech openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve applications support, sales training, or clinical education rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a cath lab tech in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a cath lab tech internship or new-graduate training program at a large California health system such as Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai, or Dignity Health, which periodically run structured onboarding for candidates from cardiovascular technology or radiologic technology programs. Moving laterally from an echo tech, scrub tech, or cardiovascular monitoring role is another common route. Holding a current RCIS credential or a California Radiologic Technology license gives candidates a clear edge even without direct cath lab experience.
