Chemical Process Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chemical process engineer in New York?
You start with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, then pursue licensure through the New York State Education Department, which administers Professional Engineer registration in the state. The path runs through the FE exam, qualifying engineering experience, and the PE exam. Many New York employers in pharmaceuticals and chemicals expect or prefer a licensed PE, and some senior roles require it outright.
How much do chemical process engineers make in New York?
Chemical process engineers in New York earn a median of about $129,060 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,520 for the lowest 10% to over $146,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire chemical process engineers in New York?
Employers hiring chemical process engineers in New York right now include Corning, Chobani, and Eastman Kodak, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's strong pharmaceutical corridor and active refining and specialty chemicals sector mean large manufacturing and life sciences companies represent a significant share of available openings across the state.
Which New York cities have the most chemical process engineer jobs?
Painted Post, Buffalo, and Malta have the most chemical process engineer openings in New York. The New York City metro leads because of its concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters and specialty chemicals firms, while Buffalo and Albany reflect the upstate manufacturing base, including industrial gas production, food processing plants, and chemical manufacturing facilities that have operated in those regions for decades.
Are there remote chemical process engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Chemical process engineering is fundamentally a hands-on, plant-based discipline, so most roles require regular on-site presence. About 17% of chemical process engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in process design consulting, feasibility studies, or regulatory and compliance review rather than active production support.
How can I get hired as a chemical process engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a process engineering associate or junior process engineer role at a New York pharmaceutical manufacturer or chemical plant, where many employers hire new graduates directly from ABET-accredited programs. Pfizer and Linde, both with significant New York operations, run structured new-graduate engineering development programs. Candidates who have passed the FE exam and completed relevant co-ops or internships in a plant setting have a clear edge over those without any field exposure.
Where can I find and apply to chemical process engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to chemical process engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the positions that match what you're looking for.
