How do you become a civil engineer in Arkansas?
To become a licensed civil engineer in Arkansas, you must earn a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program, pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to earn Engineer Intern status, gain qualifying work experience under a licensed Professional Engineer, and then pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam. Licensure is issued by the Arkansas State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors, which oversees all PE registration in the state.
How much do civil engineers make in Arkansas?
Civil engineers in Arkansas earn a median of about $85,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,810 for the lowest 10% to over $132,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Arkansas?
Companies currently hiring civil engineers in Arkansas include Garver, Olsson, and Halff, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arkansas's steady pipeline of transportation, water, and municipal infrastructure projects keeps demand for civil engineers active across both private consulting firms and public-sector agencies throughout the state.
Which Arkansas cities have the most civil engineer jobs?
Little Rock, Fayetteville, and Lowell have the most civil engineer openings in Arkansas. Little Rock anchors the market as the state capital and home to ARDOT and major engineering consultancies, while Fayetteville's rapid growth in Northwest Arkansas drives demand for site development and utilities work, and Fort Smith's manufacturing and infrastructure base supports a steady volume of public and private project work.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Arkansas?
Yes, but they're rare. Civil engineering is a predominantly field- and site-dependent profession, so most roles require physical presence on projects or at agency offices. About 14% of civil engineer openings tied to Arkansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in plan review, project management coordination, or preliminary design work that can be handled away from a job site.
How can I get hired as a civil engineer in Arkansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for junior or staff engineer roles at Arkansas's large infrastructure-focused firms or with the Arkansas Department of Transportation, which regularly brings on recent graduates for project support and design work. Earning your Engineer Intern credential immediately after graduating signals readiness to employers. Firms like Garver and CDM Smith's Arkansas offices, along with county and municipal public works departments, are known to hire candidates early in their careers when they can demonstrate AutoCAD proficiency and coursework in transportation or water resources.
