Civil Engineer Jobs in Dallas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil engineer job in Dallas?
The strongest path into Dallas civil engineering runs through transportation, water infrastructure, and large-scale commercial development, sectors that are actively expanding across the city. Municipal clients like the City of Dallas and North Texas Tollway Authority drive consistent public-sector demand, while private development in areas like Uptown and the Frisco growth corridor generates steady private-sector openings. Candidates with TxDOT project exposure or experience on large mixed-use developments stand out in this market.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Dallas?
Employers hiring civil engineers in Dallas right now include City of Dallas, Kimley-Horn, and HDR, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Dallas draws a mix of large national engineering and construction firms alongside regional consultancies serving municipal, transportation, and commercial clients throughout the Metroplex.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Dallas?
Yes, though remote work is limited in civil engineering because most roles involve field inspections, site visits, or hands-on project coordination. About 27% of civil engineer openings tied to Dallas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the most flexibility found in design, drainage modeling, and project management roles where CAD and analysis work can be done off-site.
How can I get a civil engineer job in Dallas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Dallas is a junior designer or EIT role at a regional civil consulting firm, where entry-level candidates work on site plans, grading, and utility design under licensed engineers. Firms serving Dallas-area municipalities and land developers regularly bring on new graduates, and internship programs through organizations like the Texas Society of Engineers provide a direct pipeline. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D gives candidates a practical edge in local interviews.
Which industries hire the most civil engineers in Dallas?
Most civil engineer openings in Dallas sit in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Government & Public Sector, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Dallas's rapid population growth, ongoing highway expansion through TxDOT programs, and large-scale mixed-use development in submarkets like Uptown and Legacy West keep these sectors among the highest-volume employers of civil engineers in the region.
