Summary
As a General Attorney (Civil Rights) at the GS-0905-14, you will be assigned to the Appellate Litigation Services, Office of General Counsel, with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. You will be responsible for litigating challenging and significant employment discrimination cases in the federal courts of appeals.
The selectee will be required to have a duty station at Headquarters or one of the 53 EEOC Field Offices.

Duties
- Prepares briefs and presents oral arguments in federal courts of appeals. Prepares other appellate filings, including motions and petitions for rehearing.
- Participates in all necessary appellate mediation conferences and drafts any required settlement agreements and memoranda.
- Prepares memoranda and draft briefs for the Office of the Solicitor General at the Department of Justice in Supreme Court cases.
- Drafts memoranda addressing whether the Commission should seek further review of adverse decisions or participate as amicus curiae in employment discrimination appeals.
- Works closely with the Office of the Solicitor General at the U.S. Department of Justice to represent the EEOC's interests in employment discrimination cases before the Supreme Court.
- Conducts legal research and analysis of factual and legal issues presented; develops legal arguments and strategies.
- Represents the Commission in appellate cases handled by the U.S. Department of Justice that affect the Commission, including defensive litigation.
- Provide formal and informal legal advice and memoranda to agency leadership.

Qualifications
For the GS-14:You must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member of a state Bar, and have 3 years of professional legal experience with at least one year being equivalent to the GS-13 level.
Professional legal education above the first professional law degree may be substituted for experience required as follows:(a) The second professional law degree (LL.M) may be substituted for one year of experience (b) The third law degree (J.S.D) may be substituted for one year of experience beyond the LL.M.

This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with the EEOC. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow the EEOC to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
