Civil Engineering Intern Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a civil engineering intern in Utah?
You become a civil engineering intern in Utah by enrolling in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program and completing foundational coursework in structures, hydrology, or transportation. While Utah does not require a license to intern, the Utah Division of Professional Licensing oversees the Engineer-in-Training designation, which most Utah firms expect candidates to pursue by passing the FE exam during or shortly after their degree program.
Which companies hire civil engineering interns in Utah?
Companies currently hiring civil engineering interns in Utah include Kimley-Horn, AECOM, and Stantec, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's sustained investment in highway corridors and municipal water infrastructure keeps large engineering consultancies and the Utah Department of Transportation among the most consistent intern employers in the state.
Which Utah cities have the most civil engineering intern jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Murray have the most civil engineering intern openings in Utah. Salt Lake City dominates because it hosts the UDOT headquarters, major engineering consultancies, and ongoing transit and highway projects, while Provo benefits from its proximity to Utah County's fast-growing development corridor and St. George draws openings tied to rapid residential and infrastructure expansion in Utah's southwest.
Are there remote civil engineering intern jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Civil engineering intern work is largely site-dependent, requiring field visits, lab work, and in-office CAD collaboration. About 0% of civil engineering intern openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those postings tend to cover purely analytical tasks like data processing, quantity takeoffs, or report drafting rather than full intern rotations.
How can I get hired as a civil engineering intern in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to the structured intern programs that UDOT and large Salt Lake Valley consultancies run each spring for first- and second-year students with no prior project experience. Passing the FE exam early signals seriousness to Utah hiring managers, and a portfolio of CAD drafting or GIS coursework projects closes the gap. Students who start with survey technician or construction inspection aide roles at Utah county engineering departments frequently convert into full intern positions within one season.
Where can I find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings across transportation, water, and land development employers. Find the roles that fit your schedule and degree stage below and apply directly.
