Civil Engineering Intern Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a civil engineering intern in Colorado?
Most civil engineering intern roles in Colorado require active enrollment in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program at the bachelor's level or above. Colorado does not require licensure to work as an intern, but the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors oversees the path to becoming a licensed PE, which begins with passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, typically taken in your final year.
Which companies hire civil engineering interns in Colorado?
Employers hiring civil engineering interns in Colorado right now include Westwood Professional Services, Martin-Martin, and US Federal Highway Administration, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Colorado's strong public-sector investment in transportation and water infrastructure means state agencies and large engineering consultancies are among the most active and consistent hirers for intern roles.
Which Colorado cities have the most civil engineering intern jobs?
Denver, Lakewood, and Englewood account for the largest share of civil engineering intern openings in Colorado. Denver dominates due to its concentration of engineering firms and CDOT headquarters, while Fort Collins benefits from Colorado State University partnerships and regional infrastructure projects, and Colorado Springs draws intern demand from military installation support and municipal growth projects.
Are there remote civil engineering intern jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're rare. About 50% of civil engineering intern openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the field's hands-on nature. The tasks most likely to allow remote work are design drafting, modeling in Civil 3D, and report writing, while site visits, field surveys, and construction observation require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a civil engineering intern in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to internship programs at large Colorado engineering consultancies and public agencies such as CDOT, Denver Water, and the City and County of Denver, which run structured summer intern cohorts for students with limited field experience. A completed Fundamentals of Engineering exam registration, a portfolio of coursework projects in AutoCAD or Civil 3D, and any volunteer work with local watershed or trail organizations strengthens a Colorado application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings across the Front Range and beyond. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
