Public Relations Intern Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a public relations intern in Colorado?
Public relations intern roles in Colorado require no state-issued license or certification, so the path runs through education and applied experience. Most hiring employers expect candidates to be enrolled in or to have recently completed a bachelor's program in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field at a Colorado institution such as CU Boulder, Colorado State University, or DU. A portfolio with writing samples, press releases, or social media campaigns strengthens any application.
Which companies hire public relations interns in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring public relations interns in Colorado include Highwire, BAE Systems USA, and Natural Grocers, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's mix of tech firms, outdoor brands, healthcare systems, and state agencies means intern openings appear across a wide range of industries throughout the year.
Which Colorado cities have the most public relations intern jobs?
Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood have the most public relations intern openings in Colorado. Denver dominates because it is home to the state's largest corporate headquarters, healthcare systems, and government agencies, while Boulder's concentration of tech startups and outdoor lifestyle brands drives demand there, and Colorado Springs adds openings through its large defense and nonprofit sectors.
Are there remote public relations intern jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than many entry-level fields, since much of a PR intern's work involves writing, media research, and digital outreach that travels well to a remote setting. About 86% of public relations intern openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a broader shift in communications team structures. Media monitoring, content drafting, and social scheduling are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a public relations intern in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to internship programs at Colorado's large anchor employers and universities, where new applicants without professional experience are expected. UCHealth, Xcel Energy, and the City and County of Denver all run structured intern cohorts open to students and recent graduates. A portfolio of class projects, campus newspaper clips, or volunteer communications work for Colorado nonprofits substitutes for paid experience, and a completed or in-progress degree from a Colorado journalism or communications program signals baseline readiness to most hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to public relations intern jobs in Colorado?
