Public Relations Intern Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a public relations intern in Massachusetts?
Public relations internships in Massachusetts require no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and portfolio-building. Most employers expect enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field at a Massachusetts college or university. Building a writing portfolio with press releases, pitches, or campus media clips and joining organizations like PRSSA chapters at Boston University or Northeastern University gives candidates a concrete edge with Massachusetts employers.
Which companies hire public relations interns in Massachusetts?
Companies currently hiring public relations interns in Massachusetts include Highwire, Tier One Partners, and VELOTIC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense mix of healthcare systems, financial services firms, and research universities means PR intern openings appear across a wider variety of sectors than in most states.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most public relations intern jobs?
Boston, Danvers, and Cambridge account for the largest share of public relations intern openings in Massachusetts. Boston dominates because it is home to major hospitals, financial institutions, and a large concentration of public affairs and agency offices, while Cambridge and Worcester draw openings through their university ecosystems and growing biotech and nonprofit sectors that rely heavily on communications support.
Are there remote public relations intern jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and they're more common than in many fields, since much of PR work, including drafting pitches, monitoring media coverage, and managing social content, can be done remotely. About 100% of public relations intern openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how widely Massachusetts employers have adopted flexible arrangements. Event support and in-person media relations work remain the parts of the role most likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a public relations intern in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured internship programs at Massachusetts universities, large healthcare systems, and financial institutions that run formal communications rotations for students with no professional background. Writing for a campus newspaper, running a student organization's social media accounts, or contributing to a community nonprofit's communications provides the clips Massachusetts employers ask for. Roles like communications assistant, marketing coordinator, or administrative support within a PR-heavy department at institutions like Boston-area hospitals or large nonprofits frequently convert to intern offers for motivated candidates with strong writing samples.
Where can I find and apply to public relations intern jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to public relations intern jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings in one place. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and schedule, and apply directly to whichever listings fit your situation.
