Internship Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a internship in Massachusetts?
Securing an internship in Massachusetts starts with identifying programs posted through your college's career center or directly through employers in your target industry. Massachusetts does not issue a state license specific to interns, but many competitive placements in regulated fields like healthcare, finance, or engineering require enrollment in an accredited program and sometimes background checks or field-specific onboarding requirements set by the hiring institution.
Which companies hire internships in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring internships in Massachusetts right now include Enterprise Mobility, Committee for Public Counsel Services, and Tighe & Bond, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of research hospitals, financial services firms, and defense contractors means recurring internship programs are common across both the private and nonprofit sectors.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most internship jobs?
The most internship openings in Massachusetts are in Boston, Leominster, and Westwood. Boston and Cambridge drive the bulk of listings because of the dense cluster of universities, teaching hospitals, technology companies, and financial firms headquartered there, while Worcester's growing medical and biotech presence anchors opportunities in central Massachusetts.
Are there remote internship jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields, particularly for analytical, policy, marketing, and software-focused roles. About 83% of internship openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many Massachusetts employers adapted their programs after the pandemic. Hands-on roles in labs, hospitals, or manufacturing facilities remain predominantly on-site.
How can I get hired as a internship in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured programs designed for students with no prior professional experience, such as the first-year or sophomore rotational cohorts run by large Massachusetts employers including Fidelity, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Raytheon. Building a portfolio of class projects, joining relevant campus organizations, and pursuing any field-specific certification available through your Massachusetts institution strengthens your application considerably.
