Internship Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a internship in California?
Securing an internship in California starts with enrolling in or recently completing an accredited program in your target field, since most California employers require current student or recent graduate status. Build a focused resume highlighting coursework and projects, then apply directly through employer career pages and California-based university career centers. Technical fields often expect a portfolio or GitHub profile, while business and finance roles prioritize GPA and relevant coursework.
Which companies hire internships in California?
Employers hiring internships in California right now include Tesla, Northwestern Mutual, and A-C Electric Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's density of Fortune 500 headquarters, major entertainment studios, and biotech firms means structured, paid internship programs are widespread across the state.
Which California cities have the most internship jobs?
The California cities with the most internship openings are Palo Alto, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. San Francisco and surrounding Bay Area cities dominate because of the concentration of technology and venture-backed companies headquartered there, Los Angeles leads in entertainment and media, and San Diego's strong biotech and defense presence drives consistent demand in that market.
Are there remote internship jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most entry-level positions. About 47% of internship openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many California technology and business-function employers adopted flexible arrangements. Analytical, software, marketing, and business operations internships are most likely to be fully remote, while lab research, film production, and hardware engineering roles remain primarily on-site.
How can I get hired as a internship in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured cohort programs that large California employers run specifically for candidates without professional experience, such as the university partnership programs maintained by technology companies in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Target roles labeled associate intern, rotational intern, or program assistant. A polished capstone project, a relevant certification, or a strong academic portfolio consistently gives candidates without work history an edge over other applicants.
Where can I find and apply to internship jobs in California?
You can find and apply to internship jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your field and availability, and apply directly to whichever positions fit your background and timeline.
