Technical Intern Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical intern in Utah?
The most direct path is enrolling in a computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, or information systems program at a Utah institution such as the University of Utah, Utah State University, or Brigham Young University, then applying to internship programs during your sophomore or junior year. No state-issued license is required for most technical intern roles, but a strong academic record, a portfolio of personal or class projects, and familiarity with industry tools improve your odds considerably with Utah employers.
Which companies hire technical interns in Utah?
Employers hiring technical interns in Utah right now include University of Utah, Intermountain Health, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's technology corridor stretching from Salt Lake City to Provo means many of these employers run structured, multi-month internship cohorts tied to university academic calendars.
Which Utah cities have the most technical intern jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Ogden account for the largest share of technical intern openings in Utah. Salt Lake City leads because of its concentration of technology firms, healthcare systems, and financial services companies, while Provo and Orem benefit from the student talent pipeline feeding out of Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University, which attracts mid-size software and SaaS employers to those suburbs.
Are there remote technical intern jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of technical intern openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves code, data, and systems that do not require a physical presence. Software development and data analytics internships are the sub-areas where fully remote arrangements are most common, while hardware, lab, or defense-related roles nearly always require on-site access.
How can I get hired as a technical intern in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying directly through university career centers at the University of Utah or Utah State University, which maintain relationships with employers like Adobe, Instructure, and Vivint that run structured new-grad and undergraduate internship programs. Building a GitHub portfolio with class or personal projects signals readiness when your resume has few listed roles. Adjacent starting points include IT helpdesk or junior QA positions, which several Salt Lake City technology companies use as a pipeline into formal internship tracks for candidates without prior internship experience.
Where can I find and apply to technical intern jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to technical intern jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your skills and schedule, and apply directly to whichever fit your situation.
