Civil Project Engineer Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil project engineer job in Tampa?
Focus on Tampa's active infrastructure pipeline: the region is pushing major roadway, stormwater, and port improvement projects that consistently draw engineering firms and public agencies. Candidates with FDOT design standards experience, Autodesk Civil 3D proficiency, and familiarity with Hillsborough County permitting processes stand out. Networking through local chapters of ASCE or the Florida Engineering Society and targeting firms near the Westshore and Downtown corridors gives you a direct edge in this market.
Which companies hire civil project engineers in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring civil project engineers in Tampa include CPH, Jobot, and AVCON, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local employer mix ranges from regional engineering consultancies handling municipal contracts to large ENR-ranked firms managing FDOT and Tampa Bay area transit projects.
Are there remote civil project engineer jobs in Tampa?
Yes, though sparingly, since civil project engineering is fundamentally a field-and-site-driven role. About 32% of civil project engineer openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cover design, CAD drafting, and project coordination tasks rather than construction oversight.
How can I get a civil project engineer job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is targeting EIT-eligible roles at regional consulting firms that hold active FDOT or Hillsborough County contracts, since those firms consistently recruit new graduates for design-support and plan-review work. Lateral moves into construction inspection or utility coordination also open doors locally. Completing your EIT exam and gaining exposure to FDOT production standards through coursework or internships is the clearest differentiator Tampa employers cite.
Which industries hire the most civil project engineers in Tampa?
Most civil project engineer openings in Tampa sit in Staffing & Recruiting, Consulting & Professional Services, and Food & Beverage, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tampa's ongoing investment in port expansion, regional highway corridors, and stormwater resilience infrastructure keeps those sectors in continuous need of qualified project engineering talent.
