About Head, LLC
Head, LLC is a self-performing general contractor specializing in concrete and asphalt pavement construction on military and public-use airfields throughout much of the United States. We own and operate our own concrete and asphalt plants, paving equipment, and sitework and utility equipment. We estimate, plan, manage, and execute core construction operations with our own people and equipment.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Project Manager / Estimator to manage airfield paving projects from contract award through final completion and closeout. This position has primary responsibility for project execution, cost control, scheduling, contract administration, and financial performance. The successful candidate will also assist our Chief Estimator and other Project Managers with estimates and proposals for future opportunities.
Our self-performing approach requires someone who understands construction operations, production, and field coordination—not simply subcontractor administration.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage assigned projects from award through closeout, including budgets, schedules, cost forecasts, and profitability.
· Coordinate with superintendents and field teams on labor, equipment, materials, production, and project execution.
· Manage subcontractors, vendors, procurement, project documentation, and owner communications.
· Administer contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, payment applications, and closeout requirements.
· Monitor costs, quantities, progress, risks, and contractual issues; take corrective action as needed.
· Support the Chief Estimator with quantity takeoffs, plan and specification reviews, pricing, and subcontractor quotations.
· Use actual project costs and field production results to improve future estimates.
Required Qualifications
· Four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
· At least 5 years of relevant construction project management experience.
· Experience managing construction budgets, schedules, contracts, and project costs.
· Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and construction contract documents.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction management software.
· Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and ownership of results.
Preferred Experience
Self-performed heavy civil construction, concrete or asphalt paving, earthwork, sitework, vertical construction, or utilities; estimating and quantity takeoffs; HCSS HeavyBid or similar software; and federal, DoD, USACE, or airfield construction. Prior airfield or federal experience is not required.
Location & Travel
This position will be based in our Columbus, Ohio office approximately 75% of the time, with the remaining 25% involving travel to active construction projects throughout the United States. Project visits typically range from a few days to several weeks, depending on project needs and schedules. Preference will be given to candidates who enjoy traveling and are open to spending additional time at project sites beyond the typical travel requirements. Some travel may take place aboard Head's company-owned corporate aircraft.
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include 100% company-paid medical insurance premiums, dental and vision insurance, a competitive 401(k) retirement plan, and relocation assistance for qualified candidates when applicable.
Why Head?
Take ownership of meaningful specialty airfield construction projects while working directly with company leadership, estimating, and field operations. Our self-performing model offers hands-on involvement in means and methods, production planning, and project outcomes—along with the opportunity to help shape future pursuits.
We are a small group of professionals that wear many different hats to support each other and our self-performing crew’s. Many of our projects are in unique parts of the country working on air bases for the military with a front row seat to seeing everything from an F-16 to a B-52 bomber just a few hundred feet from the active jobsite.

Civil Project Manager Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil project manager job in Columbus?
Focus on Columbus's active infrastructure and municipal development sectors, where city expansion, ODOT corridor work, and commercial growth drive consistent hiring. Engineering and construction management firms clustered Downtown and near the Easton and Polaris corridors hire regularly. Candidates with experience in stormwater, roadway, or site development projects stand out locally. Demonstrating familiarity with Columbus permitting processes and regional subcontractor networks gives you a concrete edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire civil project managers in Columbus?
Employers hiring civil project managers in Columbus right now include The Mannik & Smith Group, Head, and Congruex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Columbus attracts a mix of large ENR-ranked civil engineering firms, regional infrastructure consultants, and public-sector agencies managing city and county capital improvement programs.
Are there remote civil project manager jobs in Columbus?
Yes, but only in limited cases, since civil project management is largely site-dependent work requiring on-the-ground coordination and field visits. About 24% of civil project manager openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. The portions most adaptable to remote work in Columbus include design coordination, client reporting, and construction documentation review.
How can I get a civil project manager job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through a junior project engineer or project coordinator role at a mid-sized civil or municipal engineering firm, where you shadow senior PMs on active Columbus-area projects. Columbus's ongoing water infrastructure and road expansion programs create entry-level openings with the city and county. An EIT credential alongside AutoCAD or Civil 3D proficiency makes you competitive for these roles without prior PM title experience.
Which industries hire the most civil project managers in Columbus?
Most civil project manager openings in Columbus sit in Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Columbus's sustained population growth, active ODOT corridor improvements, and large-scale commercial development in the Easton and Polaris areas keep these sectors among the steadiest sources of civil PM demand in central Ohio.
