Clinical Assistant Professor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical assistant professor in Texas?
Becoming a clinical assistant professor in Texas typically requires an advanced or terminal degree in your clinical field, such as a DNP, PhD, MD, or PharmD, along with an active Texas state license from the relevant board, such as the Texas Board of Nursing or the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Most Texas institutions also expect meaningful clinical practice experience before a faculty appointment. Some positions, particularly in nursing and allied health, accept candidates completing their doctoral programs if licensure is current.
How much do clinical assistant professors make in Texas?
Clinical assistant professors in Texas earn a median of about $108,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,390 for the lowest 10% to over $350,500 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire clinical assistant professors in Texas?
Employers hiring clinical assistant professors in Texas right now include Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas Medical Branch, and Texas A&M University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of large academic health systems and research-intensive universities means hiring is ongoing throughout the year rather than limited to seasonal academic cycles.
Which Texas cities have the most clinical assistant professor jobs?
Houston, Galveston, and College Station have the most clinical assistant professor openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of academic medical centers and health science campuses, Dallas draws consistent volume from UT Southwestern and surrounding teaching hospitals, and San Antonio benefits from the University of Texas Health Science Center and strong military-affiliated healthcare institutions that sustain ongoing faculty demand.
Are there remote clinical assistant professor jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Clinical assistant professor roles are largely hands-on by nature, requiring direct student supervision, lab instruction, or clinical site coordination that cannot be done remotely. About 2% of clinical assistant professor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be concentrated in didactic coursework, online health sciences programs, or administrative faculty roles rather than direct clinical instruction.
How can I get hired as a clinical assistant professor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is leveraging an existing clinical license and a completed or in-progress doctoral program to apply for adjunct or part-time faculty positions at Texas community colleges, schools of nursing, or health science programs, where teaching load is lighter and mentorship is more common. UT Health, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and several community college health programs across Texas regularly bring on adjunct clinical faculty from bedside nursing, pharmacy practice, or therapy backgrounds. Building a teaching portfolio through preceptorship or clinical supervision in your current role significantly strengthens your candidacy.
Where can I find and apply to clinical assistant professor jobs in Texas?
