Clinical Assistant Professor Jobs in Massachusetts

The Department of Psychology invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice and Clinical Training Coordinator to begin in January 2027. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a renewable multi-year contract. This new hire will work with the new Director to continue the launch of a newly established Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling program. The Psychology Department has Ph.D. programs in Social, Clinical, and Developmental Psychology and a popular undergraduate major. We seek candidates with an M.A., Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Mental Health Counseling, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counseling Education, or related discipline who will play a central role in coordinating and overseeing students' clinical training experiences for a new M.A. program in Mental Health Counseling within the Department.

Clinical Coordinator and Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice must be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health counselor in Massachusetts, with a minimum of three years' experience post-licensure. The ideal candidate will coordinate all aspects of clinical training in the M.A. Program, including practicum and externship placements, recruit, maintain, and develop partnerships with community agencies, hospitals, schools, counseling centers, and other possible training sites, and supervise and support students during in-house clinical practica, ensuring quality, compliance, consistent training standards, and professional growth.

The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in professional counseling practice, a strong record of clinical supervision or training, establishing or managing field placement or community partnership programs, and a commitment to preparing the next generation of mental health professionals within a social justice-oriented, community-engaged academic environment.

The primary responsibilities will include:

• Coordinate clinical training of M.A. students in the program, including establishing and maintaining partnerships with clinical training sites
• Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in counseling theories, group counseling, clinical interventions, or career counseling
• Collaborate with university administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure program quality, accreditation readiness, and adherence to best practices in mental health counseling training
• Maintain engagement in clinical practice
• Participate actively in departmental and university service

General:

• M.A., Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Mental Health Counseling, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Counseling Education, or related discipline
• Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health counselor in Massachusetts
• At least three (3) years' experience post licensure
• Ability to support inclusive learning and practice environments.
• Capacity and willingness for leadership

Regarding teaching and mentoring:

• Ability to teach basic and specialized topics in mental health counseling
• Ability to provide clinical supervision
• Demonstrated ability and interest to mentor graduate students
• Experience and/or careful consideration of how to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Preferred:

General:

• Track record of mental health counseling and supervision experience

Regarding administrative skills:

• Track record in curriculum development and program accreditation
• Track record of managing field placement or community partnerships

Regarding teaching and mentoring:

• Ability to teach basic and specialized topics in mental health counseling, counseling theories, career counseling, clinical interventions, and group counseling
• Demonstrated ability and interest to mentor undergraduate students.

Regarding connection with department and university as a whole:

• Synergy with existing interests in the program, department, and university

Expected Hiring Range: $59,700 to $75,600

The compensation for this position will be determined based on factors that include available budget, internal equity, and the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related credentials. This range represents Clark University's good-faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting consistent with Clark's compensation philosophy and internal alignment.
