INTRODUCTION

The Surgical Clinical Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations in the Surgical Services department with authority to direct personnel and manage resources, including coordination of peri-operative services across departments. Responsible for problem solving, staffing, and effective surgical team function. Works in conjunction with Revenue Cycle Director and Surgical Services Manager to ensure surgical materials and time are accounted for in an accurate fashion.

LOCATION
Weiser, ID, is located in Western Idaho, minutes away from I-84 and offers a lower cost of living than the national average, including nearby Boise. Weiser is well-known for its many rivers, access to outdoor recreational areas, and as the host of the annual National Old-time Fiddlers' Contest & Festival.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care in the Surgical Services department when necessary, demonstrating advanced nursing skills and knowledge.
- Ensure healthcare practices comply with established standards, by bridging the gap between administrative duties and direct patient care.
- Ensures RN staff follow the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Reviews and verifies accurate scheduling of procedures and case plans to ensure the department has the appropriate resources needed to efficiently accomplish the procedures.
- Plans, assigns, and monitors the work of staff. Coordinates patient flow for after-hours cases to optimize efficiencies.
- Demonstrates use of effective problem-solving and decision-making skills related to clinical management and models these skills for staff.
- Participates with leadership team for operations planning.
- Effectively interacts with physicians regarding patient care issues, equipment needs, and scheduling.
- Maintains an understanding of the materials ordering process, and coordinates with surgical materials associate to ensure surgical services has the necessary materials to facilitate performance of procedures.
- Directs safety measures to prevent accidents, harm or injury in any way to patients, staff or equipment.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives within the clinical area to enhance patient care and clinical operations.
- Participate in the review of clinical practices to assure they reflect current trends and are compliant with standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains a collaborative working relationship with other hospital departments and physicians.
- Works in conjunction with the Revenue Cycle Director by auditing nursing/case charges to ensure surgical charges and information are inputted into HIM/coding accurately.
- Reports changes of any type to Surgical Services staff, and reports to departments affected by the changes (i.e., Pathology, Imaging).
- Ensures the care of OR suites and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility and operational ability of all items.
- Assures appropriate staffing according to productivity and professional standards and case mix needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory and management; demonstrates knowledge of disaster and emergency policies and procedures. Keeps informed of new developments in nursing and surgery.
- Demonstrates knowledge of surgical anatomy, history and physical requirements and diagnostic assessments.
- Demonstrates proficiency to assist with clinical duties, instrumentation and equipment management of cases.
- Collaborates with Weiser Memorial Hospital staff to coordinate surgical cases and share resources to meet organizational goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of IDAHO.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification or Basic EKG or Arrhythmia-identification certification.
- PALS within (6) months of hire.
- Three years of RN experience required.
- At least five (5) years of experience in surgical nursing.
- CNOR desirable.
- Extensive experience and knowledge with auditing and revenue cycle, and a working knowledge of HIM and coding.
