Clinical Laboratory Scientist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical laboratory scientist in New York?
New York requires clinical laboratory scientists to hold a New York State clinical laboratory technologist license issued by the New York State Department of Health's Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program. To qualify, you need a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field and must pass a qualifying examination. Many candidates also hold ASCP certification, which New York accepts as meeting the examination requirement. Applications go through the New York State Department of Health directly.
Which companies hire clinical laboratory scientists in New York?
Employers hiring clinical laboratory scientists in New York right now include Kaleida Health, NYU Langone Health, and University of Rochester, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and academic medical centers generate the steadiest volume of openings, particularly in high-complexity and specialty laboratory settings.
Which New York cities have the most clinical laboratory scientist jobs?
The cities with the most clinical laboratory scientist openings in New York are New York, Buffalo, and Rochester. New York City dominates because of its density of major hospital systems, academic medical centers, and large commercial reference laboratories, while cities like Buffalo and Albany draw demand from regional health networks and state public health operations anchored there.
Are there remote clinical laboratory scientist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Clinical laboratory science is a hands-on, bench-based role that requires physical presence to process specimens and operate analyzers, which limits remote work significantly. About 5% of clinical laboratory scientist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in laboratory informatics, quality assurance, or consulting rather than direct bench work.
How can I get hired as a clinical laboratory scientist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or generalist laboratory positions at large New York health systems such as Northwell Health or NYC Health + Hospitals, both of which regularly onboard candidates fresh from accredited programs. Roles like laboratory assistant, phlebotomist, or histology technician at these same employers give you documented clinical exposure that strengthens your application. Securing your New York State clinical laboratory technologist license and ASCP certification before applying gives you a clear advantage over candidates who are still completing those credentials.
Where can I find and apply to clinical laboratory scientist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to clinical laboratory scientist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to each one.
