Certified Medical Assistant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified medical assistant in New York?
New York does not require a state-issued license for medical assistants, but nearly all employers require a nationally recognized certification such as the CMA from the American Association of Medical Assistants or the RMA from American Medical Technologists. To earn these credentials, candidates must complete an accredited medical assisting program at a community college or vocational school and pass the certification exam. Programs are widely available at institutions throughout New York, including CUNY and SUNY campuses.
Which companies hire certified medical assistants in New York?
Employers hiring certified medical assistants in New York right now include 61st Street Service Corporation, Rochester Regional Health, and Sun River Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and its dense network of federally qualified health centers and specialty group practices make it one of the most active markets in the country for this role.
Which New York cities have the most certified medical assistant jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Bronx have the most certified medical assistant openings in New York. New York City dominates volume due to the concentration of major academic medical centers, borough-based health system campuses, and community health organizations, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady hiring through their regional hospital systems and outpatient clinic networks that anchor those metro areas.
Are there remote certified medical assistant jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Certified medical assistant work is primarily hands-on and clinic-based, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 5% of certified medical assistant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those postings tend to cover administrative or telehealth-support functions rather than direct patient care duties.
How can I get hired as a certified medical assistant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an accredited medical assisting program and applying directly to community health centers, urgent care clinics, and federally qualified health centers, which in New York often hire new graduates willing to train on-site. Large systems like Northwell Health and NYC Health + Hospitals run new-graduate onboarding cohorts for ambulatory and primary care settings. Lateral moves from roles such as patient service representative or medical receptionist are common, and holding a current CMA certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge over uncredentialed applicants.
Where can I find and apply to certified medical assistant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to certified medical assistant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and preferred location, and apply directly.
