Cloud Platform Engineer Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cloud platform engineer in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania has no state-issued license required to work as a cloud platform engineer, so the path runs through education and vendor credentials. Most Pennsylvania employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, combined with certified cloud credentials such as AWS Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Administrator, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect. Hands-on lab experience through university capstone projects, open-source contributions, or internships with Pennsylvania tech employers strengthens any application considerably.
How much do cloud platform engineers make in Pennsylvania?
Cloud platform engineers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $126,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,750 for the lowest 10% to over $178,080 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cloud platform engineers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring cloud platform engineers in Pennsylvania right now include Smith+Nephew, Google, and Lockheed Martin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large healthcare systems, financial institutions, and federal defense contractors means sustained demand for engineers who can manage regulated, high-availability cloud environments.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most cloud platform engineer jobs?
Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania have the highest concentration of cloud platform engineer openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its dense cluster of health systems, financial services firms, and enterprise technology companies, while Pittsburgh's strength in autonomous systems research, robotics, and Carnegie Mellon University spin-outs drives a robust secondary market, particularly for engineers working on hybrid and edge cloud infrastructure.
Are there remote cloud platform engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 60% of cloud platform engineer openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and infrastructure-as-code nature of the work. Platform configuration, pipeline development, and monitoring work can be done entirely remotely, though roles involving classified government or defense contracts at Pennsylvania facilities typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a cloud platform engineer in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate cloud engineer role, which many Pennsylvania employers post separately from senior-level openings. Large Pennsylvania health systems such as UPMC and Penn Medicine run IT associate programs and rotational tracks that accept recent graduates, as do defense contractors like Lockheed Martin through their early-career engineering pipelines. Transitioning from adjacent roles in systems administration, DevOps support, or IT operations is common. Earning an entry-level cloud certification such as AWS Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals gives candidates a concrete, verifiable credential that compensates for limited work history.
Where can I find and apply to cloud platform engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to cloud platform engineer jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and the broader state. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each one.
