Cloud Platform Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cloud platform engineer in New York?
Cloud platform engineering has no state-issued license in New York, so the path runs through education and credentials rather than a licensing board. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. New York employers consistently favor candidates who hold vendor certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure alongside hands-on project experience, internships, or a demonstrable portfolio of deployed cloud infrastructure work.
How much do cloud platform engineers make in New York?
Cloud platform engineers in New York earn a median of about $166,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $97,430 for the lowest 10% to over $224,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cloud platform engineers in New York?
Employers hiring cloud platform engineers in New York right now include Google, New York Life, and Abco Maintenance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, media companies, and large healthcare systems means demand is distributed well beyond the pure technology sector.
Which New York cities have the most cloud platform engineer jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Manhattan lead New York for cloud platform engineer openings. New York City dominates because of its dense base of financial services firms, enterprise technology companies, and media organizations that run complex cloud infrastructure at scale, while secondary markets like Albany and Buffalo are driven by state government modernization projects and regional financial institutions expanding their engineering teams.
Are there remote cloud platform engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of cloud platform engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how central the role is to distributed, software-defined infrastructure. The most consistently remote work involves platform design, infrastructure-as-code authoring, and on-call engineering, while roles requiring data center coordination or regulated financial-sector compliance tend to carry stronger in-office expectations.
How can I get hired as a cloud platform engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior site-reliability engineer or cloud operations associate role, which large New York employers such as JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, and IBM use as structured on-ramps for candidates without deep production experience. Lateral moves from system administration, network engineering, or DevOps support are common starting points. Earning an entry-level cloud certification and completing a capstone project demonstrating a working cloud environment strengthens applications considerably in this market.
Where can I find and apply to cloud platform engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to cloud platform engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to New York employers and locations. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
