Entry Level Communications Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level communications specialist job?
Entry level communications specialist roles reward candidates who show real work, not just coursework. A portfolio with writing samples, social media campaigns, press releases, or internal communications projects gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Internship experience, even a single semester, signals you can function in a professional environment. Tailor your resume to each posting and highlight any tools you know, such as content management systems or design platforms.
Which companies hire entry level communications specialists?
Companies hiring entry level communications specialists right now include Northrop Grumman, Collabera, and Virginia Tech, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including corporations, nonprofits, government agencies, and healthcare organizations that need communications support across digital channels, internal messaging, and public relations.
Are there remote entry level communications specialist jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still dominate at the entry level. About 23% of entry level communications specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates who prefer flexibility will find options alongside the on-site postings. Hybrid arrangements are common in larger organizations where some in-person collaboration is expected for junior team members.
Are these new grad communications specialist jobs?
Yes, these roles include new grad, recent graduate, and junior positions designed for candidates just entering the field. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or academic projects as qualifying work, and does not require prior full-time employment. Look for language like "entry level," "recent graduates welcome," or "portfolio in lieu of experience" to confirm a role fits your stage.
Which industries hire the most entry level communications specialists?
Entry Level communications specialist roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they manage high volumes of external messaging, employee communications, and content production that new communications professionals can support from day one.
