Align your credentials to GMP environments
AbbVie Project Engineers work within FDA-regulated manufacturing sites, so your resume should explicitly reference GMP compliance, process validation, or capital project delivery in pharma or biotech. A generic engineering CV won't clear the recruiter screen.
Target AbbVie's manufacturing and R&D sites directly
Project Engineer openings at AbbVie cluster around specific sites, including North Chicago and Barceloneta. Filtering by location before applying helps you identify roles that match your visa type's geographic requirements and avoid postings tied to sites with tighter sponsorship flexibility.
Clarify your visa category early in screening
AbbVie sponsors multiple visa categories for this role, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. During initial recruiter conversations, confirm which category applies to you so the hiring team can loop in their immigration team before an offer is extended, not after.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Project Engineer roles
AbbVie posts Project Engineer openings across its sites at different times in the hiring cycle. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're applying to roles where your work authorization is already accounted for.
Understand the LCA requirement for H-1B and E-3 filings
Before AbbVie can file your H-1B or E-3 petition, the DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your role and location. This step happens before USCIS receives anything, so expect a few weeks of lead time after your offer.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation in advance
Project Engineer roles at AbbVie typically require a bachelor's in chemical, mechanical, or biomedical engineering. If your degree is from outside the U.S., have a credential evaluation ready through a NACES-member organization before your H-1B or PERM process starts.

Find Project Engineer at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Project Engineer roles. Because these positions require a specific engineering degree tied to the job duties, they typically satisfy the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to H-1B petitions. AbbVie's in-house immigration team handles the filing process, which begins after a formal offer is extended and an LCA is certified by the DOL.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at AbbVie?
You can find and apply for Project Engineer roles at AbbVie through Migrate Mate, which filters openings by visa sponsorship eligibility. Applications go through AbbVie's careers portal, where you'll submit your resume and complete a profile. Roles in pharmaceutical manufacturing or process engineering move quickly, so applying as soon as a position opens improves your chances of reaching the recruiter screen.
Which visa types does AbbVie sponsor for Project Engineer roles?
AbbVie sponsors a range of visa categories for Project Engineers, including the H-1B, H-1B1 (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA), and J-1 for exchange visitors. AbbVie also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying engineering programs, and files immigrant petitions under EB-2 and EB-3 for eligible candidates pursuing a Green Card.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for sponsored Project Engineer positions?
AbbVie Project Engineer roles in its pharmaceutical operations typically require a bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, biomedical, or a related engineering discipline. Hands-on experience with capital projects, process validation, or equipment qualification in a GMP-regulated environment is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with FDA regulatory frameworks and project management methodologies like PMP or Stage-Gate strengthens your candidacy for roles at manufacturing sites.
How do I understand the timeline for visa sponsorship at AbbVie as a Project Engineer?
The timeline depends on your visa category. For H-1B, AbbVie must file during the annual lottery window in March, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest, unless you're already in H-1B status and transferring. E-3 and TN petitions can move faster since there's no lottery or annual cap. F-1 OPT allows you to start working while the H-1B petition is pending under the cap-gap rule. Confirm your category with AbbVie's immigration team immediately after receiving an offer.
