- Push the envelope—challenge the status quo, think outside the box, and take calculated risks to drive meaningful innovation in financial products.
- Bring exceptional visual and interaction design skills to craft delightful, polished experiences that build trust and confidence.
- Champion a test-and-learn mindset, leveraging experimentation, research, and analytics to continuously refine and optimize user experiences.

Build a portfolio around fintech UX patterns
Affirm's design work centers on checkout flows, loan disclosures, and payment interfaces. Tailor your portfolio to show consumer-facing financial product work, not just general app design. Hiring managers in fintech look for evidence you understand trust, clarity, and regulatory context.
Target roles open before H-1B registration opens
H-1B registration runs in March each year. Apply to Affirm UI Designer roles in January or February so your employer has time to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and prepare the petition before the registration window closes.
Clarify OPT and CPT eligibility upfront in screening calls
Affirm hires on F-1 OPT and CPT, but not every recruiter confirms this early. Ask directly in the first screening call whether the role supports your current authorization type so you're not four interviews in before it becomes an issue.
Understand how TN status applies to design roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals can use the TN visa for qualifying computer systems analyst positions, which some UI Designer roles fall under. Confirm with Affirm's immigration team that the specific job description maps to an eligible TN occupation category before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to filter UI Designer openings by sponsorship type
Affirm posts UI Designer roles across multiple teams, not all with identical sponsorship support. Use Migrate Mate to filter current openings at Affirm by the visa type you need, so you apply to roles where your authorization path is already confirmed.
Negotiate offer timing around USCIS filing deadlines
If you're transitioning from OPT to H-1B, the cap-subject petition must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. Work backward from that date when negotiating your offer letter to ensure Affirm's legal team has at least six weeks to prepare.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for UI Designers?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for UI Designer roles. The company has an established process for supporting work visa petitions across its design and product functions. If you're targeting an H-1B, apply well before the March registration window and confirm sponsorship intent with the recruiter early in the process, since timelines are tight.
How do I apply for UI Designer jobs at Affirm?
Apply through Affirm's careers page or use Migrate Mate to browse current UI Designer openings filtered by the visa type you need. Affirm's design hiring typically includes a portfolio review, a design exercise, and multiple rounds with cross-functional stakeholders. Having a portfolio that demonstrates fintech or consumer finance UX work strengthens your application significantly.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly use for UI Designer roles?
Affirm sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for UI Designer positions. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates entering design roles, while H-1B sponsorship supports longer-term employment. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose job description aligns with eligible occupation categories.
What qualifications does Affirm look for in UI Designer candidates?
Affirm expects UI Designers to have a portfolio demonstrating proficiency in interaction design, visual systems, and prototyping tools such as Figma. Experience designing for financial products, checkout experiences, or regulated consumer interfaces is a strong differentiator. Affirm's design teams work closely with product and engineering, so candidates who can communicate design rationale in cross-functional settings are preferred.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship before my OPT expires?
If your OPT expiration date is approaching, apply to Affirm UI Designer roles at least three to four months before your authorization ends. This allows time for interviews, an offer, and any STEM OPT extension or H-1B cap filing. USCIS requires H-1B petitions to be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so work backward from that hard deadline.
