Translate your credentials into fintech partnership language
Affirm's Business Development roles center on merchant and financial institution partnerships. Frame your resume around deal structures, revenue impact, and cross-functional coordination rather than generic sales metrics before you apply.
Target Affirm's merchant-facing and banking verticals directly
Affirm organizes Business Development by vertical, including retail, travel, and banking. Search for roles under these segments rather than a blanket BD search to find positions where your industry background aligns with active hiring.
Confirm your OPT timeline before your first interview
If you're on F-1 OPT, Affirm's hiring process for BD roles can run six to ten weeks. Verify your OPT expiration date before applying so you can flag STEM extension eligibility early and avoid gaps in work authorization during the offer stage.
Ask about H-1B sponsorship intent during the offer negotiation
Affirm has sponsored H-1B petitions for Business Development professionals, but sponsorship decisions are role-specific. Raise visa sponsorship during offer discussions, not after signing, so both you and your recruiter can confirm the role qualifies as a specialty occupation with USCIS.
Understand PERM timing if you need a Green Card pathway
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship through PERM requires DOL labor market testing before Affirm can file your immigrant petition. The full process from PERM filing to priority date can span several years, so align your long-term plans with your employer early.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Business Development roles at Affirm
BD positions at Affirm open and close quickly across verticals. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Affirm roles that match your visa type so you're applying to live openings with confirmed sponsorship history rather than listings that have already closed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development roles?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development positions. Sponsorship is determined on a role-by-role basis, so the specific position you're applying for must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Business Development roles focused on partnership strategy, financial product structuring, or merchant integration typically meet that threshold. Confirm sponsorship intent with your recruiter during the offer stage.
Which visa types are commonly used for Business Development roles at Affirm?
Affirm supports several visa categories for Business Development hires, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals. For longer-term pathways, Affirm has also sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 green card petitions. The right visa depends on your citizenship, educational background, and where you are in your immigration journey.
What qualifications or experience does Affirm expect for Business Development roles?
Affirm typically looks for candidates with experience in partnership development, merchant relations, or financial services business development. A bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field is standard. Roles at more senior levels often require a track record in deal negotiation, cross-functional project management, or fintech-adjacent industries. Strong analytical skills and familiarity with payment or lending ecosystems are frequently cited in job descriptions.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Affirm?
You can browse open Business Development roles directly on Affirm's careers page, or use Migrate Mate to filter Affirm positions by visa sponsorship type so you're only viewing roles that match your work authorization situation. When applying, tailor your application to the specific vertical the role covers, such as retail, travel, or banking partnerships, since Affirm's BD team is organized by merchant and industry segment.
How do I time my application if I need sponsorship before my current visa status expires?
Start your job search at least four to six months before your current status expires to allow time for Affirm's hiring process and any filing preparation. If you're on OPT, USCIS requires H-1B cap-subject petitions to be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Missing that window means waiting another year unless you qualify for a cap-exempt employer or an alternative pathway. Flag your timeline clearly when speaking with Affirm's recruiting team.
