Align Your Credentials to Automotive Service Standards
AutoNation operates under manufacturer-specific service requirements, so certifications like ASE or OEM training carry real weight. Translate any international trade qualifications into U.S.-recognized equivalents before you apply, since hiring managers compare candidates against those benchmarks.
Target Dealerships With Active Service Departments
AutoNation's highest-volume maintenance hiring happens at high-traffic dealership locations, not corporate offices. Search by metro area and dealership brand to find stores with open service bays, since those locations have the most pressing need and the most hiring autonomy.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Maintenance Roles by Visa Type
Not every AutoNation posting will flag sponsorship availability upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Maintenance openings at AutoNation that align with your visa category, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Time Your OPT Application Around Service Hiring Cycles
AutoNation dealerships ramp up service staff ahead of peak seasons. If you're on F-1 OPT, apply at least 90 days before your current authorization expires so there's enough runway for onboarding and any STEM OPT extension paperwork if your role qualifies.
Clarify TN Eligibility Before Accepting an Offer
TN status requires your role to map to a qualifying USMCA occupation category. For Maintenance positions, the fit depends on whether your duties fall under a recognized technical or engineering classification, so confirm the job description aligns before your employer files documentation with DOL.
Request a Defined Start Date When Negotiating Your Offer
H-1B cap-subject petitions have a fixed October 1 start date, which affects when AutoNation can formally bring you on board. Negotiate your offer letter to reflect that timeline explicitly so HR can coordinate the I-129 filing window without delays from internal approval chains.

Find Maintenance at AutoNation JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AutoNation sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenances?
AutoNation has sponsored H-1B visas for workers in operational and technical roles, and Maintenance positions fall within that scope depending on the specific duties involved. Cap-subject H-1B petitions require USCIS approval and a lottery selection, so timing and role classification both matter. Confirming that your job description meets specialty occupation standards before the offer stage saves significant back-and-forth later.
Which visa types are commonly used for Maintenance roles at AutoNation?
H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN are the visa types AutoNation has used for roles in this function. OPT and CPT work well for recent graduates entering dealership maintenance operations. TN applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose roles align with a qualifying USMCA occupation. H-1B is the most common path for longer-term sponsorship once you're established with the employer.
What qualifications or experience does AutoNation expect for Maintenance roles?
AutoNation typically looks for candidates with hands-on technical experience in vehicle or facility maintenance, relevant trade certifications such as ASE, and familiarity with dealership service workflows. For roles involving specialized equipment, OEM training credentials strengthen your application. Practical experience in high-volume automotive environments tends to carry more weight than academic qualifications alone at the dealership level.
How do I apply for Maintenance jobs at AutoNation?
Browse open Maintenance positions at AutoNation through Migrate Mate, which lets you filter by role type and visa sponsorship eligibility in one place. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight automotive-specific technical skills and any relevant certifications. Follow up directly with the dealership's service manager where possible, since hiring decisions at the location level often move faster than through central HR.
How do I plan my timeline if AutoNation is filing an H-1B petition for me?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year, with cap-subject approvals carrying an October 1 start date. Your employer needs to submit the Labor Condition Application to DOL before filing the I-129 petition with USCIS. Build in time for that LCA certification step, which typically takes one to two weeks, before the petition window opens. Starting conversations with AutoNation's HR team in January or February keeps you on track.
